Okay, never had this issue before. Knew it had something to do with the League descendants, but never had it so didn't know who.
Read the entire story and....some old frozen guy with robots? Ivo? T.O. Morrow? Someone we never read the exploits of?
GAAAAAH!
I say...Stephan Hawking! His passing was a fake, he set up the robots and routinely seeks out vengence for the time they let him visit the Satelite but only had one ply toilet paper... those BASTARDS!
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!
Something pithy!

I figured it was Ivo. He had recently returned in the regular Justice League book, so I figured it was a loose tie-in.

Yeah, it's Ivo.
From what I recall they didn't blatantly say it for some reason (avoid continuity glitch in case Ivo was killed in his next appearance or something?) but they gave enough hints that a regular JLA reader would have known who it was.

ah, planning ahead for continuity... that's one thing I hate about prequels and future trips, they are boxed in by what has been established. although sometimes the HOW of something happening can be interesting, but the WHAT is often set in stone...

Ooooh..Elon Musky. Brilliant child genius inventor that was disgraced when his Mr. Atomic Garbage Disposal for The Home had an accident and the Quintuple Octodad became an instant sensation in Le Grange, Texas. He blamed Atom for showing the world how it went wrong and hated the JL because of it.

The Legion Annual, cover dated October 1985, states that Ivo would fight the League in 1986. Ivo's attack on the League would be the one where Vibe and Steel are murdered, and would signal the break up of the team and the end of JLA vol1. The first part of this was cover dated Jan 1987. So, the Leigon annual is a prequel to the End of the Justice League of America, that occurs 1000 years in its future.

Colonel Mustard. In the conservatory. With the candlestick.
"But how did she get shot with a candlestick, Set?" "Shut up! That's how!"

Thanks Thoth. I never made that connection before. As an extra wrinkle... Giffen was a part of this Legion Annual, with a big JLA influence. This would also be around the time Giffen started asking JLA editor Andy Helfer incessantly if he could write the JLA. That book still had Conway as a writer, so poor form there. When the Ivo plot *did* just make it for the end of 1986, it would be written by JM DeMatteis. He would be Gifffen's co-writer on the JL relaunch. Colonel Mustard. In the conservatory. With the candlestick.
"But how did she get shot with a candlestick, Set?" "Shut up! That's how!" That's no candlestick! It's Ted Knight's Cosmic Rod!
