Establishing a thread for any discussion of The Suicide Squad.
Just watched it tonight with the fam and really enjoyed it. DC seems to go balls to the wall with their antihero movies and be pretty successful, unlike their mainstream movies.
Anyone else get to see it yet?

Stallone as King Shark was a riot, and characters I'd never expected to care about like Polka Dot Man and Ratcatcher 2 were interesting.
Idris Elba is never not amazing. And Margot Robby owns this role.

Yeah it was a fun movie - I'm still thinking about it positively, which is definitely a good sign.
My kids were almost upset when it looked like King Shark may have bit the dust but it was all good.
Great points on Kaleidoscope and Rat Catcher. They were two characters I had no real idea about, but they were just so well done. Especially Kaleidoscope's powers. Dang!
The beginning sequence was a nice fake out, but I really liked the imagery they used around Harley, especially her escape scene. And the little details that were there - after she leaves that building, in any of the background shots that show the doorway to that building in the distance, they still have the imagery floating around. Robbie really goes all in with Harley and its great to watch.
It is EXTREMELY violent so much so that it almost revels in it, but its a violent action movie, so its always servicing the story. The goofiness of some of the character interactions is what makes the whole so successful.
And Idris Elba - come on. Always amazing.

I just loved it, even with all the farcical elements. Usually, I don't like farces a whole lot, but this one balances out those elements with some humanity and characterization. Certainly, as a fan of the GotG movies, I just new James Gunn would give me a movie that would scratch my itches. While I don't love these characters as much as those in GotG, there was lots to like. All of the characters who emerged as the majors were lovable in their own way, even Cena's Peacemaker--so much so that I was disappointed in his heel turn and the unforgivable act he committed. I'm not saying it was out of character, just that it was disappointing he'd make that decision. The rivalry he had with Bloodsport was a lot of fun, especially the game of murder oneupmanship they played that had a cringily hilarious turnabout conclusion. Cena is usually terrible in his acting roles that I've seen, but Peacemaker and Gunn's direction shows enough potential that I'm looking forward to the upcoming Peacemaker series. Kinnaman's Rick Flagg was so good in this one in all ways that connotes. Polka Dot Man was hilariously tragic. And who would have thought a brief flashback between father and daughter Ratcatchers would be so touching? (Taika Waititi in that cameo is perfection!) King Shark was great comic relief (I half-expected him to eat Ratcatcher in that final plane ride), but Stallone's vocals took me out of the movie, occasionally. I mean, his KS is basically barely less eloquent than his Rocky Balboa! But it's growing on me. Robbie's Harley was as on-point as ever. (Haven't seen BoP, yet, though.) I'd have preferred she hadn't done the deed with the bad guy and just killed him in the first place, though. I'd rather they'd leaned into the lesbian half of her sexuality, since the first film had already showcased hetero with the Joker. I'm rooting for the Poison Ivy love affair to eventually materialize, The extended scene GL refers to is awesome, though, and made me think of how it improved on a similar scene in the Marvel Daredevil Netflix series but in a way that is perfect for Harley. Of course, Idris is great. He surprised me here, especially in that hilariously vulgar exchange with his character's daughter! I was sad to see Boomerang written off so quickly. He was one of the bright spots in the first movie. Certainly, though, his death sets the tone. Such a good, entertaining movie--and we got frickin' Starro!!!!

I guess since this is a Legion fan-forum, I should mention that we got to see a big-screen interpretation of Arm-Falls-Off Boy, which is something I *never* thought to see.
(I'm not in love with that particular scene, but it's totally on-brand for his type of humor.)

I will say that the Bloodsport discussion with his daughter was essentially pulled me into the movie to stay. I also was disappointed with Peacemaker's decision, but it will be curious as to where they take his character moving forward. I was actually OK with Stallone's voice here - He was basically a more articulate Groot, but it worked for me. I've really enjoyed Robbie as Harley. I don't care one way or another re: Harley's sexuality (although I am enjoying her comic series tie in with the show - which I have NOT seen yet), as long as they keep her as a force of nature, it should all work out fine. BoP was a fun movie and she was great there, too, but the style was completely different as she was the main character, so the story was basically told from her viewpoint (and well done as well).

Fillion was great, but now I definitely see why the Legion rejected him! He did indeed "fall apart under pressure" to borrow a phrase from Kinetix.

I rarely watch movies in the cinema - the last time I did was in 2017 I think. But I'm excited for this one - reviews have been good. The fiance and I are watching tomorrow, and I can't wait for him to see Arm-Fall-Off-Boy in action lol!

We did at home as we are HBO Max subscribers. I gotta tell ya, I'm really enjoying this dual release thing.

Yeah, I was willing to go to the theater to see Black Widow, but this and Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and Raya, the other three new releases I've seen recently, were 'sit at home' movies. I like not having to go to the theater, although I'm still willing to make the effort for some films. Might drag myself out to see Dune, as well, when it drops.

And last I checked, Dune will be a dual release as well, right?
