Cham entertaining the child by morphing his head to Krypto's and then Streaky's was cute. Mon-El's gramps forgetting who he was and delivering some exposition about how 'we' (Legionnaires) 'won the trial' in those same panels was a bit off-putting. I guess the letterer was supposed to attach that speech bubble to one of the actual Legionnaires? Or it could be more of that 'everybody sounds the same because he just has whoever gets drawn in the panel deliver whatever lines he had written for that scene, even if it doesn't make any sense coming from them' problem Bendis has. Mon doesn't seem to particularly love the parenting thing, treating it as a chore, and not one that he ever mentioned to his various Legion girlfriends. I wonder if it literally *is* a chore, one that, as a member of the El bloodline, he's expected to sire X number of children by a certain age, and is just sort of getting the family obligation out of the way, some weird New Kryptonian tradition that we're going to learn about, and perhaps find that he was raised the same way, part of a litter of pups whelped out and more or less ignored by 'parents' who wanted nothing to do with them? (Perhaps explaining some of his resentment towards Jon, if it's this 'famous bloodline' that's put him in this ugly situation of being expected to be a farm stud, as opposed to getting to fall in love and marry whoever he wants and all that, like his famous ancestors...)

It's possible he may not have fathered the children in the traditional manner at all. I don't know what the current version of Krypton is like, but we've seen versions in which reproduction is very strictly controlled. He may be little more than a donator of genetic material to the birthing matrix or whatever.

I enjoyed this issue overall, not loving how Mon-el is being portrayed ( NO TO THE BEARD!) but hopeful that that he is being set up to grow into the role? Anyone else notice that Ayla has two different colored eyes? One was clearly colored black.

I just realised how complicated Mon-El's family tree is getting.
So Zod is his great grandfather, and this is clearly meant to be the original Zod as in General Zod since he remembers meeting Jon Kent almost a thousand years ago. No wonder he looks a little old. (They met at least twice in the Superman titles over recent years, one of which was written by Bendis.) Do all Kryptonians live so long or are there some time McGuffins involved here?
In issue 8 Mon-El said that he was Jon's great, great, great, great, great grandchild. That's about 7 or 8 generations depending how you count them.
So sometime in the past thousand years the El family and Zod's intermarried (or interbred at least).
Also we saw at least one other presumed member of the El family in the opening greeting shot of the flying Kryptonians, the dark-skinned woman with the hammer wearing the El family symbol (the "S").
He also has the El family symbol on his door, and his kids names are Laraz, Connor and Lane. Apparently Connor Kent is remembered.
I also just realised that "Mon-El" is presumably actually his real name as a Kryptonian of the family of El.

Anyone else notice that Ayla has two different colored eyes? One was clearly colored black. Yes both Garth and Ayla have been drawn with different coloured eyes since their first "appearance" in this version. I can't remember if the same is true for the rest of their family. The artwork for this series has been spectacular with some close attention to detail. Cham entertaining the child by morphing his head to Krypto's and then Streaky's was cute. I missed that the first time! Thanks for pointing it out. Regarding the Tinya/Mon/Shady coupling thing I think it probably is a gaff but then again maybe not. They both react during their conversation with Mon although Tinya's is more obvious. Was he coupling with both of them as well as keeping them in the dark about his Kryptonian family? Clearly the Legion doesn't know him all that well. Then again there is the distinct impression that most of the Legion is still getting to know each other.

It is weird, half the time it seems like this is an established group that have had time to form relationships, etc. and the other half the time it seems like they just literally met five minutes before Jon Kent arrived and know nothing about each other. And they talk over each other constantly, attempting to finish each others sentences, or get their own two cents in, so that no thought is ever really completed, everything just sort of happens half-assedly. (Contrast to some meeting of Avengers or Justice Leaguers, where someone can get a sentence in, or even a paragraph, without two or three other people interrupting. Even in the cases where *a* character is intentionally disruptive or disrespectful of whoever is speaking, and has to pipe up, like Wolverine or Guy Gardner, it's just 'That Guy,' and not *everyone* feeling the need to get a word in.) Everyone has ADD in the future, it seems, and absolutely no ability to listen to other people, or conversational courtesy.

See, I was thinking it may be Chris. (Or Lor now, I suppose.) As far age goes, in universes like Kingdom Come, we?ve seen Kryptonians live upwards of 1,000 years under a yellow sun. However, Clark was an extremely old man by the time the Legion rolled around in that universe.

I told myself I would give this new, different Legion 10 issues to decide if it was "right" for me.
Sadly I decided this book is not for me. It's not Legion, it's something else altogether. What's familiar about it is not enough to keep me engaged as a long time fan. It is too all over the place for me. Too random and too last-minute "oh let's throw this in ... for shock value!".
Nope, not for me. I'm done with this iteration of the "Legion".
Sorry but this... whatever it is, is definately NOT Legion (in my opinion).
I will wait for someone else to reinvent the Legion. Hopefully someone who has more respect for the mythology of the Legion. Someone who can actually tell the Legion stories with focus on heart and the characters we've come to love over the decades, not lame story lines and poorly conceived new, unnecessary origins.
Whatever this "Legion" book is, is not even entertaining for me. I have to be honest with myself or else it just ain't worth it! LOL
I'm not going to read something I'm not enjoying just because it has the name Legion on it. Sorry folks.
In the present

I am thinking of dropping it as well. It's just been OK, but certainly nowhere near as compelling as when I first started. I was willing to give it a chance, but there's not enough in the book to keep me interested. If it hadn't been titled the Legion, I doubt I would have lasted this long either. Clearly the Legion doesn't know him all that well. Then again there is the distinct impression that most of the Legion is still getting to know each other. That's one of the things I've most disliked about almost everything by Bendis I've ever read.
Still "Fickles" to my friends.

v8 Issue 10
- The galaxy's most prominent martial artist was so upset by a minor skirmish, that he had to nip off on a retreat. - A couple of other skirmishes have been sufficient to send the team across the galaxy to "clean up and restore any damage done". It must have all been done off panel, as I can't remember any feeling of galactic threat over the last 9 issues. - Mordru has escaped from Planet Gotham, but we didn't see that either. - With panel space at a premium in expensive comics, I'm not a fan of an entire page being taken up with something a previously caption would have done just as well. Even if it is supposed to also introduce us to one of the cast. - "Tell us of this great darkness."... "People are seeing similar visions of "a great darkness." Well, that clears that up. Visions with no detail whatsoever. Almost as if the plot hasn't been written or going through DCs editorial focus groups. The Oans ask about a great darkness, They are told nothing. But that's okay. The Oans have already foreseen it. But are telling nothing. Very clunky plotting. - Comic cover cliches "are the Legion the savours form the Great Darkness? or the Cause of it?" Needless to say, the scene shifts before we get to see the next question from Brainy. "Could you perhaps provide the slightest clue about anything you've just said?" - It?s not clear if Lar is with Tinya or Shady. Or both. Or none. Nor is it clear why they didn't know he had at least 3 kids.
- The art is excellent - Imra and Jon make for a decently written couple. - Alfred as the holo-waiters in the restaurant. - The Lanterns now work across dimensions, which is something they should have been doing a lot sooner. - I don't read any other DC book, and I didn't feel I needed to know anything more regarding all the super-folk on New Krypton. Even with what looks to be a Super-villain introduced since the last time I read a Super-book. - Lar having a number of kids. Everyone has a different story to tell. - Doctor Fate is the new Veilmist, in terms of intergalactic teleporting. - Brainy combining systematic intelligence with emotional intelligence. It was interesting to see him follow up directly on the Lanterns.
It was good to see the team spread out from poster book posing pages. There were some indicators that a lot of the scenes were going to be reflections back to the first 9 issues where not much had happened. However, the Krypton scenes are at least linked to the next plotline. Mordru and Jo also have some movement.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
