Bendis has created the worst Legion of all time ... but his genius has been exceeded ... this one from the future is even more horrifying. Thank you Bendis for destroying all my beloved characters!

We recently covered the annual in the reread thread (plug) and it was a dreadful comic. It didn't have an alternate future Legion in it though, saving it from that comparison with the BendiBoot. Comparing Future State with botched DC Event comics is an exercise in eye bleeding misery I'm happy to leave to others. smile

Getting back off the topic you could almost say we have circumnavigated the subject. (Sorry. Best I could come up with.)

But do we really WANT to stay on topic, when Future State looks so horrible? shudder

Read Bendis and Rossmo?s interview in the Future State sneak peek and... I am not happy. At all.

I just finished reading it. Very upsetting. At one point Bendis says, "We may not go back to the "present day." " What I think he's really saying is that they won't. Way to torpedo a series that was already problematic.

Or, since DC have held up all their books for 2 months for this latest gimmick, they are desperate to give it some traction, to get readers to pick it up.

No doubt they'll try to get as much mileage out of it as possible. From little teasers in the main book to perhaps a regular issue, with plots linking up the two eras.

It'll have more impact on the main book than Millenium did, which isn't saying much.

Relevant until the next do-over arrives. Not that long, which is a reason not to bother with it.

It seems to me that, in a way, Bendis wants to make his own 5YL.

... While ignoring the 30 years of continuity and the dedicated fan base it had behind it.

DC is apparently already developing a tv show based on the Future State Wonder Girl, so apparently they are putting a lot more faith in this event than I would have expected.

I can only surmise that Gold Lantern's awesome origin story will be turned into a movie in the near future!

That's...the most horrifying scenario of all. But then, my repuatation as an 5YL hater skeptic precedes me.

"Gold Lantern: The Movie" - Christmas 2999. (Only 6 weeks after the comic with the awesome origin story is finally published.)

Riley Rossmo posted his cover ideas on Twitter. They help indicate who some of these characters will be.

On the Future State designs: I think the Duo Damsel one is super cute, though honestly I would never have associated it with that character...and I love the Saturn Girl design for a Thunderdome type brawler character, but it seems weird for Imra or someone emulating Imra.

The Bouncing Boy/Brainy thing looks like something I would love if it were in Doom Patrol, but it's gonna be hard seeing how that works in a normal superhero comic (especially with more conventional artists)

And Blast Boy seems like a frakkin awful name for someone carrying a sword, but that visual would make for a great supervillain grunt!

I am actually kinda tempted to steal some of these and reimagine them actually smile

Of the 23 characters on the splash page I only like Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Catwoman, and Jon Kent's outfits as alternates or potential upgrades to the original or classic looks.
