I would have been more excited for this before DC decided continuity was optional. It was a great reference guide for the immediate post-Crisis universe for about a dozen years, but since then, the information contained within has been practically useless.

Between the two, I normally prefer Marvel's Official Handbook because the info (after the first couple of issues, at least) was so comprehensive comparatively. But the artwork in Who-Who, with each entry getting a lovely pastiche, was superior. I think the loose-leaf notebook approach in Who's Who's final (?) incarnation was the most superior version of the format done by either company, but it was sadly short-lived.

Not sure if I'm gonna get this omnibus. My concerns mirror Chaim's slightly, but at the same time, I do love the old continuities and would certainly find much delight within.

We'll see... hmmm

I agree that the loose-leaf Who's Who was the best. Brilliant design, fantastic artwork. Shame they didn't keep it going.

For me it's mostly the nostalgia value of it, than its actual value as a reference work.

What's most bizarre about the original series is that it ran concurrently with Crisis, so it's really this bizarre mix of pre-Crisis and post-Crisis continuity.

Actually, that made a lot of sense, because Crisis was packed full of characters that readers wouldn't recognize. It would have been smart for them to have started it the year before or to have printed it bi-weekly (don't know how possible that was back then, given how distribution was through different channels) so that it concluded before the end of Crisis.

Yeah, it would've made a lot of sense if the main body of Who's Who had all been released prior to end of Crisis, and served as a guide to pre-Crisis continuity, and then the supplemental volumes detailed some of the post-Crisis changes. As it was, you get, notoriously, tons of entries on pre-Crisis Superman stuff, but then the main Superman entry is the post-Crisis version. It's just bizarre.

This is really nice! I like the artwork and information in the issues I read. It would be nice to have the complete collection to review with friends.

This was a great series however I feel they messed up towards the end by dropping entries like Superboy due to changes after Crisis.
