Awww no!

Asterix was one of the few readily available European series when I was a kid. Uderzo had such a delightful style, and the way he made the most of the oversized (by American standards) page format was astonishing.

Rest in peace, good sir. Thank you for all the fun stories.

Still "Fickles" to my friends.

There were several Asterix books in our high school library, all in French to get the students studying French to want to keep learning I guess. My foreign language study was German so they meant nothing to me but I read them all anyway. Years later I read English versions from our local library.

It's a testament to the artwork that they were enthralling enough to make me "read" them all when I couldn't understand the text and then still want to read them later as an adult.

Unlike Tintin, Asterix never feels dated. Bon voyage, Uderzo, you made a lot of people happy.

Glad you mentioned that, Cramey. That's a very important detail.

I have the first three Asterix graphic novels in omnibus format; also Asterix in Spain. Will be re-reading them all soon.

I love Asterix! I was introduced to him in French class in middle school. I love the tone of the stories.
