It wouldn't be the first time the Legion warred amongst itself, although mostly the previous instance (I can only really think of one) was way back in the Silver Age. It involved discovering a new batch of Kryptonians as well. There was also Braal and Imsk in the 5YL era but both Rokk and Vi had left the Legion at that time so it only involved them. Have to see how it plays out (although I wouldn't want an angry Kryptonian squeezing my hand even if I did have telepathic powers).

I'm open to it, but yeah... the Threeboot had way too much of this infighting.

The only way I'd want a 'divided' Legion is if they split into two teams and had their own books and their own individual adventures, perhaps covering different 'beats' like Earth Legion and Outer Territories Legion, not if they were just fighting each other.

But this is just ad hype, I imagine, and the team will be 'divided' in the sense that some of the thirty-odd members will have differing opinions on something. But not thirty-odd opinions, 'cause that would be all nuanced and shit, and require some work on the part of the writer. Just two conflicting ones, meant to gin up fan division and tribalism (in lieu of inspiring actual *enthusiasm* for the property, which would be that hard work thing again...), like 'Team Sparkly Vampire' or 'Team Shirtless Werewolf.'

and who knows, it will probably be over in two issues (because we can't wrap up a plot in one issue to save our lives - remember the orientation presentation?)

For fun, here's the solicit from v5 #8:

Quote

THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #8

Written by Mark Waid; Art by Barry Kitson and Art Thibert; Cover by Kitson

The war that will transform the galaxy begins — inside Legion headquarters! When one Legionnaire quits the team, it strips away the last bit of civility between Cosmic Boy and Brainiac 5, violently splitting the team in two!

I liked the rivalry between Cosmic Boy and Brainiac 5 because it felt natural to me as a teenage girl reading the book. It felt like a classic case of preps versus nerds. I was used to seeing rivalries because they were a constant trope of anime during the late '90s and aughts.

What a nice juxtaposition to the Threeboot.

I always liked the Legion for the camaraderie / family feeling, so the "team splits in two" storylines didn't make me very happy.

Part of the problem is that we don't really know the team at this point, so any team breaks in half storyline is going to have much less impact than if we'd seen the camaraderie built first.

The solicitation for LSH #8 has been updated.

Does this mean there's 44 Legion members? hmmm And will we finally learn everyone's name?

hrrrm! I would love for there to be 44 Legionnaires (like that solicit some time back where Ferro Lad was mentioned, despite not actually appearing). Hope that IS the case, and this solicit isn't just hyperbole...

Would love to see some more Legionnaires get "rebooted": Polar Boy, XS, Kinetix, Gates, Kid Quantum II...

That seems likely, though I'd assumed TW's appearance on the apparent cover to #9 would've meant he'd been featured in that issue.
