Bendis has been using Rose & Thorn in Action very well. This is an intriguing development!

Those thorns aren't *that* accurately thrown. Those rose don't grow like that...uh... just from trellises. No! They have help... telekinetic help! Don't be surprised if that Rose & Thorn thing is just a identity she loses over time, having to take on new roles and names. In her future, she does try and cling on to the past by taking up an interest in archaeology. We've seen a pic of her being introduced to the Legion. An offer she accepts... as Kinetix.

There you go Ibby. A hope to cling onto. smile

I hadn't been reading Action, and only know Thorn from the old Alan Scott/Green Lantern villain (and eventual mother of his children, Jade and Obsidian).

Looking at the artwork, I would have guessed Maxima, since she looks like Maxima, particularly in the picture where she's throwing down with Superman (and nothing like any Thorn I've ever heard of).

!! I didn't know that about her being Jade and Obsidian's birth mother. Always been meaning to go back and read All-Star Squadron but somehow never have. I was more familiar with the silver age version and then the post-Crisis version who appeared in various places including Superman. Did they ever sort out a different parentage story in the post-Crisis period? She seemed far too young to be their parent then.

I agree with Cobie that Bendis has made her a very interesting character in Action. Makes sense I suppose if he has this grand plan for her, but even without that her story line is fairly riveting.

Pre-Crisis, there was a Earth-2 Rose and Thorn (Rose Canton) and an Earth-1 Rose and Thorn (Rose Forrest).

Post-Crisis, these are still two separate characters. The post-Crisis Earth just happened to contain two different, unconnected women born decades apart named Rose with split personalities whose second personality takes on a costumed identity as "Thorn". Such is comics.

I mean, we just happened to have 4 Earth Green Lanterns all from the USA for the longest time. imagine what the more-populous countries of China and india felt! "Hey, we have 3 times the population but none of the power rings!""

When DC tried giving someone with partly Arabic background a power ring, they *had* to make him a criminal *and* a suspected terrorist *and* had him wander around with a gun with his power ring. Nice to see DC moved on so much from its Black Bomber days. China and India might be better off without the "representation" from DC. smile

I know from my encyclopedia research that China has it's own super-team, I think they are called the Great Ten, but they are rarely used. The Teen Titans had an Indian member known as Solstice, but she was recently killed off in an event book (as much as it matters these days).

Speaking of Green Lanterns, I hope to see some of their non-humanoid species make appearances, even if it is just to prop the panels. Everyone seems to like Chaselon.

Since Rebirth there has been a new Chinese superhero team called the Justice League of China with its own Super-Man, Bat-Man, Wonder-Woman, Flash (Avery Ho), Robinbot and Dragonman (Aquaman equivalent). They were an initially started by the Chinese government but later became independent. They haven't been seen since their last comic issue dated August 2018. During the comic run they encountered the Lantern Corps of China who wear uniforms created by the Chinese government to emulate some of the Green Lantern corps abilities but they only appeared in 4 issues and haven't been seen since.

wikipedia has a quite extensive list of Asian super-heroes, although it covers many different publishers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Asian_superheroes

It would make sense if there were more fragments of the meteor that became Alan Scott's lantern/ring in China.

Remember post-Flashpoint Alan Scott's Asian boyfriend? Who died in his origin... dang. Would have been nice if Alan and boyfriend became co-Lanterns together.

Sounds fun. It is another of those "just happened to trip across a..." origins, but he is a kid. I do remember post Crisis when we got a Green Lantern Corps book with several of them operating out of Earth. Right from the start, the emerald elephant in the room was "Why does Earth need so many of the Lanterns and why is the DCU not a completely changed place because of their involvement?"

um... make it relevant to the thread... c'mon thoth… a ha...

I wonder which of the numerous Earth-based lanterns might have a connection to the new Legion's Gold Lantern?

Re: The Green Lantern conversations: I am going to find/create the Green Lantern thread in the other sub-forum. I have a thought out explanation as to why there are so many Earth Green Lanterns.

I don't know if I like the idea of Superman/Supergirl being Presidents of Earth. I haven't been reading the books, so does the people of Earth get any say? Is it an empty title or do they actually expect them to rule Earth?

If it is a real title, that is the sort of thing that usually happens when Superman goes "evil" such as Injustice or Justice Lords. It also would be hypocritical (and yes I know they have done hypocritical things) of the Guardians to tolerate such a situation considering how they reacted to Sinestro's abuse of power. I know most of the DC lines are disconnected at the moment, but I think half the Justice League members would laugh at the idea and half would consider such a decision to be a sign of corruption.

I believe she's just President of the U.S., but it does raise all sorts of questions, since, barring a Constitutional Amendment, she's not eligible.

So is Kara (I presume it is Kara) the President of Earth or the President of the USA? ( Or perhaps the president of the House of El on Earth? Nah) The DC Comics blog link suggests USA although it does say "apparently". We would have to presume that there is a change in the Constitution since it is my understanding that the President must have been born in the USA, which Kara certainly wasn't.

This came up in one of the alternate futures Waverider viewed during the Armageddon 2001 event where Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent became President which was ok since in Post-Crisis/Pre-Infinite-Crisis he was born from his birthing matrix when it was opened by the Kents on Earth.

If President of Earth we can expect to see significant changes in Earth's political landscape in the next, what, 50 years?

Oh and this blog blatantly states exactly who the mysterious woman is. Pity in some ways. I know the images shared already pretty much gave it away but still. I guess this is the cost of previews and trailers.
