Whether it be a ship from a short-lived version, an abandoned plot-point, or a couple that was largely ignored in-panel, there are at least a handful of examples of pairings that are rarely discussed. I personally really like Brainiac 5/Dream Girl, even though the ship was only canon in the Threeboot. They are both intelligent and their personality strengths and weaknesses complement each other. Their powers also balance each other out and allow for lots of potential for any offspring. This pairing also saves Brainiac 5 from the long distance relationship that is involved in dating Supergirl.

Are you a fan of an unusual or underrated Legion couples, and if so, which ones?

I don't know if Invisible Kid (Lyle) / Chemical King counts. They had a retconned friendship (with Lyle sort of mentoring Condo) in the Preboot. In the Reboot, Lyle was supposed to come out as gay eventually, but sadly it never happened. I always thought they would make a cute couple, and imagining them as gay helped me get through my own real-life struggles. Of course, they both died in the Preboot, but I just imagine they lived happily ever after in the Reboot...

And I always thought goofy Tenzil and shy Violet would make a cute couple! Tenzil's disarming personality could draw Vi out of her shell.

“He's brilliant... strong-willed... proud, handsome... and so logical. Maybe if he had a little less logic, he'd have realized why I came!”

“She's so foolhardy... frail and beautiful! The way she stares at me with those dark eyes, as if... Bah! Illogical!”

No, it's not Nurse Chapel and Mr. Spock. It's round-eared Shadow Lass and Brainiac Five from Adventure #366 (March 1968).

The Star Trek franchise is only six months old, but Brainiac Five is already embracing Vulcan 'logic'. Alas, their short-lived mutual crush was not to be.

'Foolhardy', 'frail'... that's the sort of personality traits Querl originally finds attractive? (I think this may be a reference to the supposed destined early death of "Shadow Woman")

Superboy and Triplicate Girl seemed like an interesting possibility, although she broke the 'rule' that Superboy's girlfriends had to have 'LL' initials, like Lois Lane, Lana Lang and Lori Lemaris. smile

I vaguely recall post-Imskian-replacemet Violet (the real one, not Yera) making a pass at Sun Boy, which was an odd choice. (I like her better with Ayla, even if that came about years later.)

Re VI and Dirk, I think that was shortly after she recovered from her sens-tank ordeal. She was probably feeling a bit reckless at the time, and dealing with everything. Dirk, with his ladies' man reputation, might have been a way to soothe her ego.

Sun Boy and Dawnstar. Never officially a couple, but there was a scene in the Baxter years in which he encouraged her to dance at a club and I thought they could be an interesting match, at least become friends. So different, it might work. Strangely enough, I read a fan fic recently which explored this very idea and the writer really did a great job of developing not only the relationship, but the stunned reaction of the other Legionnaires.

I'd like to seem more Legionnaires in relationships with non-Legionnaires, e.g. Star Boy and Zynthia.

Yeah, that would be neat, aka Element Land and Shvaughn.

They kind of blew it with Yera and Lydda becoming Legionnaires, instead of remaining outside the team, and yet still dating / married to Legionnaires.

Even Shvaughn is Legion-adjacent. One thing I like about Zynthia is that she's someone Thom knew/dated before becoming a Legionnaire. She's the "girl back home".

Chameleon Boy had a lot of girfriends, for someone with his complexion.
I’m too tired to look up all the references.
Most notably, he actually married Princess of Elwinda of Nadir, before being permanently banished from her dimension by his Legion “friends”. Surprising he stayed with the Legion after that.
He later dated Janice Warren, an Earthgirl who bore a striking resemblance to the Princess, but nothing ever came of it.
I seem to remember another, more fishy-looking girl once as well.
In the Reboot, Chameleon (Boy?) was linked with Sensor on at least one occasion.
And in the Threeboot, that Chameleon has a casual one-night stand with a bird. But at least they had a conversation first.

The fishy-looking girl was Ambassador Jeryl, I think.

In the Reboot, Chameleon was linked with Sensor, but they were really just friends. Many, such as XS and Sensor's father, thought there was something more. Chameleon would pursue a relationship with Spark, though.
