In the grim future of Nightmares of Future Past (Marvel RPG), an older Danielle had no powers (possibly she'd lost them in the comic of the time) but she still fought bravely against the Sentinels, armed with a high powered energy rifle. That's the one that pops into my mind first.

Two trends that I dislike are turning everyone with any kind of mental power into a generic telepath, or turning their psychic power into some sort of “knife“ or “arrow” to make them more of a warrior. But I also think her powers probably need to be beefed up somewhat if she’s to be a major player, so I chose the “empathetic“ choices because it seems like a good way to build on her core powers.

I also chose Valkyrie mostly out of nostalgia for how cool I thought that was at the time. It also makes her more physically formidable without having to go with the cheesy psychic arrow thing. And even though I don’t remember much being done with it, there is probably interesting story potential in the weird culture clash.

While I agree that energy weapons are getting old, but Dani had psychic arrows long before Betsy had a psychic knife (or katana, or whatever), so I'm fine with Dani being able to make 'real' psychic weapons, by manifesting things that make her feel more confidence (instead of just others fears).

I'd want her to keep most of her established powers, sensing and manifesting fears, both as images and as real psychic manifestations, as well as animal empathy. The Valkyrie stuff, I'm not as in love with...

Was she shown to be a tactician or was this just the writers hitching her onto a bigger character? I remember it being done with Red Arrow in the JLA, much to my eye rolling.

She was the best leader of the New Mutants for sure, not sure about the details of tactics. I guess so.

I don't think Cannonball ever led much despite being co-leader.

These results were a little more blended but seems like people liked the fairly original version and I didn't put two and two together before but I guess it makes sense for her to have empathic powers, animal empathy and then be able to project fear and desire illusions. I always viewed her illusion power as telepathy not empathy!
