CMK has it! it was Gates.

From memory, the heart's desires (not everyone had one):

1) Cosmic Boy - Saturn Girl - the Eye cast an illusion on XS to make her appear as Imra
2) XS - Cosmic Boy - see above
3) Live Wire - his arm restored - done by the Eye
4) Triad - to be three individuals - each Triad boy got an individual look and they could not recombine
5) Leviathan - to die a hero - died in battle with Regulus, but unsure whether this was the direct influence of the Eye
6) Brainiac 5 - to be left alone - became completely invisible and undetectable to others
7) Gates - to have his political opinions listened to - Thom and Lyle listened and were fascinated
8) Element Lad - to gain death, the greatest reward/final transmutation - visions of his parents inviting him to commit suicide

And of course, Vi herself had her own desires "granted"" by the Eye, becoming more confident and becoming Legion leader.

Unconfirmed or debunked heart's desires:

1) Chameleon - Spark - he saved her life in battle, and she warmed up to him (unlikely though, as they pursued their relationship even after the Eye left)
2) Ultra Boy - Apparition - they both worried that Apparition's return was because of the Eye (debunked, as she remained even after the Eye left)

Sounded like something Gates would be naturally lacking but greatly desiring.

What did Brainiac 5 do in order to clear more of his mind of distraction in order to better concentrate on the problem of attacking the Time Trapper?

Gates in the early Reboot definitely fit that. Many other Legionnaires were openly dismissive of his opinions.

he shut down some of his thought tracks?

No. The idea that his "12th-level intelligence" meant he could think along 12 different tracks at once wasn't introduced until the reboot, in the issue where the rogue Titanian probes his mind.

Did he command his mind to ignore sensory feedback from everything going on around him?

I remember this scene. A couple of the other legionnaires are chatting and Brainy emerges from his lab. They make some comment about him re-joining the living or such but he accesses a computer to solve or try-out some strategy gambit, and explains that he just had to test it because it was distracting his thoughts from more important things, and then disappears back in to his lab.

But what was the thing distracting him? I want to say a chess move or something like that but I can't remember exactly what.

I think it was that futuristic version of Dungeons and Dragons that Sun Boy liked to play (his usual opponent was Star Boy, but he had left the team at that point) rather than chess, but yes, that's the answer. He had that game move in his head and needed to try it out for real so it would no longer distract him.

Yes! That's right. I remember it now. The players (I think you are right that one was Sun Boy) were astonished at Brainy's unusual interest in the game and just watched him stunned as he casually made a clever move and then dismissed the whole thing and walked away. Still it shows he has at some time or other at the very least observed the game to have a tactical idea floating in his head. Reminds me of a much earlier story where he is playing Space War (or called something else) with Superboy who was amazed when He beat Brainy who was distracted by thoughts of Kara. Ah, happier types of distraction for Brainy.

When Element Lad is reluctant to have his photo(or whatever 30/31st Century thing it is) taken, Mon-El refers to another legionnaire to encourage him. Which legionnaire does he refer to and why?

Hmmm maybe Brainiac 5? Brainy gives a logical reason to do it ?

Not Lighting Lad nor Matter-Eater Lad.

Incidentally I am fairly confident that most of you have not only read this issue but also remember the scene fairly well.

Looking over at Triplicate Girl, one of her is grinning, one has a small smile, and one is not smiling at all.
(This is something I completely missed until recently looking at it again.)

Oh wow - wasn't expecting to get it right! LOL.

That Bendis scene is the only "picture posing" one I remember in my reads, so I checked, but wasn't sure if that was it or not!

OK - so qq, since this is the first time for me doing this. Does the answer always have to be a character, or can it be pretty much anything?
