Stile, you are right. You were there and she knew it. My mother, my aunt and I were there in hospice when my dad passed in much the same way. At some point, prolonging is really akin to torture. Life is precious because it's finite. She knew you were there and loved her, and that's all anyone could ask.
My condolences, my friend.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

We had the funeral on Monday and it went very well. My sister and I both gave a eulogy and contributions from others added to the shared reflection on Mum's life. Painful and sad but also wonderful and uplifting.

Oh I'm just seeing all this now from the last couple of weeks. My condolences to you and your family, Stile.
She sure seems to have had a wonderful life - that long of a time here is certainly something to celebrate, and its always good to be able to celebrate a life well lived than mourn a tragic one cut short. You've had the gift of her in your life and the ability to say goodbye, which is so rare.

Got Sam his first vehicle yesterday. Talk about a nut punch. It's great, he's growing into a fine young man. But, my little buddy is jumping out the nest. Most of my actual physical time in his life is over with him going back to school at the start of August.
That said, it's a good thing. He's learning responsibility, how to manage things, how to stand on his own and be ready to make a place of his own in the world.
So, all in all, it's great. But also a little bittersweet as his mama said.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

ah, that time when the little ones grow up and are about to fly off. you and the mrs. did a good job raising Sam, but indeed I can imagine it's bittersweet

Congrats and commiserations Rick. It is hard when they leave to make their own way but as you said great to see that they can. Enjoy the memories and hopefully look forward to new and ongoing relationships with your son in the future.

Yesterday was my mom's birthday. The past year has been rough on her, with all manner of aches and pains centered around her lower back.
I was determined to give her the happiest birthday I possibly could.
And it went exactly as I had hoped it would.
I went to bed happy.
Still "Fickles" to my friends.

Excellent, Ann. I'm glad it went so well for you.
Not for me personally, but one of the few IRL friends I still have just had his first grandchild, a grandson. I cannot get in to particulars, but there was significant worry healthwise for his daughter, and thusly the baby as well. But, all went well and he has a healthy 7lb, 10 ounce grandson. He stands five foot six and 140lbs soppin' wet, and right now the biggest thing about him is his smile.

And I'm thinking, I 'm not surprised there's a health risk. That's some height for a baby. ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/smile.gif) Great that everything worked out, and lovely to hear about their happiness, Rick. Thanks for sharing.

Okay my personal one - we moved the youngest into college this week! Of course I sprained my ankle in the process, but I can live with that ![laugh laugh](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/laugh.gif)
