What a great batch of answers! In order:

We could care less about mutant powers, but queue jumping is a deportable offence.
I bet they would have appreciated that but no. They were however both cross and supportive when they found out.

That's the way for it to work! But unfortunately no cross-world publications were involved.

No. In fact her powers did not work on the school grounds.

oh interesting, why would her powers not work on the school grounds...

Was she outed by someone?

No she was not outed by anyone. No-one at the school was aware of her X-men identity or association.

If it helps this was during her time with the first team Excalibur.

No. In fact she thought the rest of the team was dead or lost in another dimension, and a "friend" of the team arranged for her to be placed at the school to give her a home of sorts.

I think Lockheed was other wise occupied.

Did she walk right into a wall, making it obvious to people that she expected to be able to pass through it?

They went on a school outing to the tower of London.
But the Crazy Gang had taken it over
'orf with her head they shouted at Kitty
Fortunately her phasing power worked, avoiding the blow, but cluing in her school chums.

This was obviously harder than I thought. Without context it is pretty hard to get it.

Not a wall.

Ha! The Crazy Gang were not involved - this time!
Not - precisely - a school outing - or at least not an officially condoned one anyway.

The school, which was a girl's school only, was in financial difficulties so this bunch decided to do something to raise some funds. What might teenage school girls do - legally - to earn some cash? Hint: this involves a traditional school activity for teenage girls
particularly in the USA. Not sure if it happens in the UK, it doesn't in Australia, but then the writer was American.

I remember the Schoolgirls from Heck story line (3 issues I think). I remember cheerleading being on one cover but can't remember the scenes. I also recall something about field hockey.

idle has the correct story, and since this one is turning out to be obscure and tricky I will award the win to him (with thanks for all the guesses from Ibby and CMK).

The short answer is her power is revealed while breaking up a fight amongst fellow school girls on an unauthorised train trip to compete in a Cheerleading competition.

The Schoolgirls from Heck (yes that was the official story name) was in Excalibur v1 #32-34. Kitty had been separated from the rest of the team back in issue #19 and, apart from flashbacks and others impersonating her, this is the first time we finally find out what she has been up to. Courtney Ross, upper class former girlfriend of Captain Britain (although actually it's another dimension version impersonating her), has arranged for Kitty to attend her own old school St Searle's School for Young Ladies.

Kitty has trouble fitting in at first and is bullied by the senior girls until she beats them (in more ways than one) playing field hockey. She and the head girl come to an understanding when they bump into each other while both were spying on the headmistress to find out about the school's financial difficulties. The girls decide to enter a cheerleading competition for Britain's first American Football team in the hope of winning enough to keep the school going.

It is while on the unauthorised train trip to the competition (yes the hockey girls are playing hookey) that Kitty breaks up a fight between some of the girls and her powers are revealed when someone's fist passes through her head. When she tells the girls of her superhero name and being part of Excalibur they are accepting and supportive but a bit cross that she hadn't confided in them earlier. During their performance the commentators make comments like although they are not the most professional competitors they have the most heart.

Then, as often happens in comics, Excalibur turn up at the same location in the middle of a fight. Kitty apologises but leaves in the middle of their performance to help her other team, and in short order the rest of the girls dash off to join in the fight too. They lose the competition but Courtney Ross shows up having arranged for the American Football team to lease grounds from St Searles solving their debt problems. Kitty says good bye to the girls and rejoins Excalibur.

Thanks for the summary, stile! Interesting. Can also imagine how it must have been in real life, waiting so many issues to find out Kitty’s fate

In the original Valiant universe, what connected the titles Magnus, Robot Fighter and Harbinger. (Note: This is different from the connection of any other two series)

Hmm. No idea. I read Magnus, Robot Fighter as a kid back in the gold key days and was aware Valiant revived the character but I haven't read any, and I don't know Harbinger at all.

Wild guess: are the two main characters related in a familial sense i.e. siblings or such?

I'll accept that. Magnus turned out to be the son of two members of the team from Harbinger. He then ended up in the future as a baby during Unity. I think he found out, but can't remember. (I gave my Valiant comics to a friend while downsizing so I haven't been able to reread them).

Korbal is correct. Way back in Batman #107 in 1957 Dick was accidentally aged up to an adult, so to keep working with Batman he adopted the identity of Owlman.

Everyone knows Kal and Kara are cousins, but what was the name of THEIR cousin?
