Is it a character retroactively established as the embodiment of heavenly mercy?

It was not a pre-existing character redefined. This character was introduced as such from the debut. The character appeared in Final Crisis: Revelations.

Neither of those.
I'm suspecting that none of you read that part of Final Crisis. Shame, it might have been the most coherent part.

Nope. This was not a previously known character.
If no one gets it by tomorrow, I'll just come up with a different question.

OK, this has gone cold long enough. The spirit of heavenly mercy was called Radiant, it merged with the soul of a nun who had been beaten to death in a mugging.
Which villain made a bargain with Neron to become smarter, but then was upset at the fact that he now recognized how ugly he was?

I didn't know the answer but Blockbuster makes so much sense.

During the press conference announcing Infinity Inc, all of the members revealed their secret IDs. Which member was first and why?

Really can’t remember, but I could see it being Brainwave Jr is response to looking like his supervillain father.

Ibby has the right character, but not the reason. I'll give a little while to allow guesses for the reason.
I will add the Brainwave Jr. was already known to be Brainwave's son and didn't actually mention his real name, but that part of the press conference did happen first. I'm excluding it since he didn't choose to reveal his ID and Hector did.

Was it to justify that they are familiar with super heroics (by being related to other heroes) even though they’re young?

I can accept that. A "reporter" for the Inquisiter revealed Hector's real name and that he was Hawkman and Hawkgirl's son. Hector decided to not deny and unmasked and admitted it. This led to all the others also unmasking.
Your turn.

I always thought that was an odd bit. After so much was made about the JSA disbanding in the 50s after refusing to unmask, to have the kids just randomly do it (and thereby reveal their parents' identities as well) seemed like a strange choice.

I always felt bad for Jennie-Lynn's parents. They had no super-hero connections and are now thrust in the spotlight. Fortunately nothing happened to them. (Todd's dad was in a similar situation, but it was almost impossible to feel sorry for him)

Considering that Thomas lives and breathes continuity, I'd not be surprised if the scene was a deliberate flip of the JSA disbanding recon, to show Infinity Inc operate in a different era.
