The back up to Shade the Changing Girl #2 this week is Ornitho (from the Wanderers) and Beast Boy (The Lallorian one) teaming up to save a planet while talking about how their shape-changing powers set them apart from others.

Cool!

Young Animal is going for obscure, and I guess it doesn't get too much more obscure than an Orintho / Beasty Boy team-up (though maybe not for this board).

This may end up being the best Legion story in 2016!

I checked it out. It's not much of a story (definitely completists only!), but cool for seeing these two guys together!

Yeah, like the other Young Animal backups it's only a few pages and seems designed to let Indy creators play around a bit with obscure characters.

Is his name Orintho or Ornitho?

Ornitho...like ornithology.

Since Shade's an avian, maybe they plan to bring Ornitho (and Beast Boy) into the main story. Or are the back-ups just playgrounds, as Dave describes?

Yeah, it's misspelled in the story.

Incidentally, for the continuity nerds:

The story references events from the 80s Wanderers stories. Of course, Beast Boy is still alive, which is weird.

With all the Crises and resets in the DCU, I think anything is possible at this point. I think most creators are probably just writing what they want at this point, as it is so hard to keep up with all these events.

Yeah, I don't expect to really to be consistent with any established continuity. It's a little weird that they reference what's not usually considered to be one of the better Legion stories though!
