It's a neat-looking cover, though.

In what version have we ever seen E lad leading the charge?
I love this cover.
Significance of the bridge or just a nice place to pose the combatants?

yup the bridge does have significance, pretty much all of the covers thus far hint at or is part of the stories by the way a larger black and white version is up on my blog

For some reason, I suspect the death is either Saturn Girl or not on the cover at all. Top suspects are the two major couples:
1) Saturn Girl. She's been an obvious focus of Shooter's run and, after her dubious conduct and breakup with Garth, Imra's death could be a form of redemption.
2) Lightning Lad. Because it's tradition for bad things to happen to Garth.
3) Princess Projectra. She's obvious an integral part of everything that is happening. This could easily be a "Dark Phoenix"-type storyline where Projectra's death is necessary to save the UP.
4) Timber Wolf. The description for 49 suggest something sets off Brin. I'm wondering if he might be a casualty of whatever happens with Projectra. (He seems to watch Jeckie when he thinks something is wrong, so he might accidentally stumble on whatever the Orandans are up to.)
I'm really disappointed this series is ending. Given the delays with Lo3W, DC should have given Shooter through issue 54 to complete this story.

Perhaps one of the newbies will break Ferro Lad's record of shortest Legion career?

Presumably whoever dies is not in Lo3W #2

A dead character reappeared in Johns' Lightning Saga Legion, so I don't know if we should assume the books are inconsistent. As for it possibly being a newbie, the preview says the death is of a longtime Legionnaire. I don't think any of the newbies qualify.

I could actually see it being Invisible Kid, kind of giving the entire threeboot a sense of one large story from beginning to conclusion.

If it is a "longtime" member who isn't in Lo3W, that means it has to be either Cosmic Boy or Sun Boy. I don't believe Sun Boy has been seen, heard from, or even mentioned since Shooter took over. We know Cos returns this issue. Could be he goes out with a bang big enough to immortalize him so that he's regarded as an inspiration for the Knights Tempus in the 41st century. Here's a thought, although not exactly a desired one... *!warning - unexplainable time traveling anomalies will occur!* What if the Knights Tempus is the end result of Lo3W? Whoever is left over after Lo3W relocate to the 41st century. They "recruited" Cos to train him for the fight to come. He doesn't really die in issue #50, he's transported back to the 41st century in time to welcome the Lo3W survivors to their new home with a "Your plan worked, Brainy!" Or something to that effect! Oww! Brain pain! i've got to put this in my "kenaustin's kwazy komments, konjectures, and kwestions" thread over on the DCMBs!

<<3) Invisible Kid's not-being-taken-seriously by his teammates leaves them all feeling like dog-poop when he gives his life to save another or buy them a few seconds to save the day.>>
Invisible Kid's death has a certain symmetry with (1) IK (I)'s death (2) IK (WaK)'s fake-out suicidal leap into the series in the story that launched the WaK run in the Titans/Legion crossover.

Brainy will die and be reunited forever with Dream Girl. Perfect bittersweet ending.
This issue was supposed to be 40 pages long but it wouldn't suprise me in the least if Shooter and Manapual were given one last shaft in the posterior by Didio. It's been his modus operandi towards the Legion for the last five years, and I can't imagine why Johnsboot fans think DD will treat them any better.
Francis, you rock, but I must say I wish your gorgeous cover included all the Legionnaires. If that bridge symbolizes the bridge we Legion fans are supposed to cross to yet another reboot, I won't be one of them.

As someone who doesn't like the threeboot because of the premise on which it was based, I have to agree. Francis's artwork was the best thing about the last half of the series. Good luck on whatever your next assignment is FJM

Tromium I wished it included all of them too. But Jim is pretty adamant about making sure the cover relates to the story. Having all of them there wouldn't have made sense..although I still wished I could have drawn all of them on the cover one last time.. which hasn't really happened since our first issue....

I know what you mean, Tromium. I've been collecting the Legion for nigh onto 40 years, but I just don't think I've got one more reboot left in me. I think I'll just reread the comics I've got and stick pins in my DC-powers-that-be voodoo dolls from now on.

Let's not pretend this is hard work, okay? It's reading superhero comics. I'm not saying you should buy comics you don't want to buy, but don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

I'm not pretending it's hard work. Just voicing my disgust on the Legion getting the shaft with yet another reboot. And I don't think I'm alone in that.
Hey, since when does this Legion have reservists?

Which 3boot Legionaire didn't make the cross dimensional trip in LO3W #2? That's who gets killed.

Oh, and BTW, this should say January 2009, not 2008.
Long Live all them Legions!

Which 3boot Legionaire didn't make the cross dimensional trip in LO3W #2? That's who gets killed. That would be Sun Boy, Cosmic Boy, Mon-El, Dream Boy or Dream Girl Dream Boy probably doesn't count. Does Dream Girl? My money would be on either Cosmic Boy or Sun Boy returning for one last heroic gesture.
