So I'm interviewing next week in San Diego at a school. I'm super excited and nervous (imagine XS for a sec). I enjoy my current job (hell, I get to be a professor in New York) but I'm thrilled at the idea of a new place. And it's always nice to be wanted by a new place.
Are there other places people are interviewing? Want to transition?

I'm looking more to transition into non-work but congrats on your experience. There is something special about someone "wanting you," knowing you beat out who knows how many others. There's certain pressure too but it's an exciting type, you get to work with people and things and places that you might never have dreamed would be a part of your life.
My first day post-grad job, early 80s, after all the human resources stuff, "Blockade Boy, we'd like you to design the communications system for our bid on the Space Station...(only heard a kind of silent ringing after that). YES, THAT Space Station. NO, our team (we were a partner of Martin Marietta I believe) didn't win. And YES, there was help. They just should have led with that information.
Good Luck!!!

If we'd you know, gotten the contract, lol. There were some exciting projects, it was an interesting and dynamic place. Still couldn't hold a candle to the day-to-day unexpected teaching in my old neighborhood provides now.
What is it you hope to be doing in San Diego if you get the position? Still teaching? Researching? Janitorial?

Yeah, it's been a long time since the janitorial
The position is tenure-track (which I am now) in Intercultural Communication at SDSU. They kind of like that I teach queer theory and comic books and porn. Which is kind of cool

Tenure track! SWEET! Congrats, hope that goes well. And in San Diego, could there be a better place to do research on comic books? Don't know about the other two but you can always start a movement.
Good luck!

San Diego! Cool!
Andy, you'll have to let Kabir and I know how this goes. We'll have to meet up sometime.

LOL Thanks y'all I just finished the two days of interviews SIGH I'm just so awkward and a bit confrontational (without realizing it)... I could tell it made some people uncomfortable I don't know if I'll fit into their world Sigh
I would love to be here and see Nightcrawler and Kabir ...
We shall see

They didn't fly you out there because you're mashed potatoes. You are someone they want.
Send a nice polite cover letter, apologize for nothing. NOTHING. Throw in the words "passionate" about your subject area, be sure it's clear how much you enjoyed meeting them and hearing their ideas and that should take care of any confrontational perceptions. If it doesn't then well, they're just poopy-heads you wouldn't want to work with anyhow.
Oh, and stop being confrontational, lol
