Yawn! Wish this preview had gotten me excited for this issue. It didn't.

Seeing young Clark get sprayed by dead chicken blood isn't exactly a good incentive for buying a LoSH comic.
Keep up with what I've been watching lately! "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you."

I learned that Clark's dad is a rubbish tractor driver that runs down his own chickens.
Years later in Metropolis...
Clark: Stupid thing just ran out in front of me when I was at superspeed. Officer Sawyer: That "thing" was a 15 year old boy. A boy who is now critically injured. Clark: We should sort that. I'll get the hatchet.

Yes, this whole "Convergence" series exists to dueling Secret Wars, right? Where is the fighting? You don't need this much set-up for what is basically an Arena battle.

Brilliant summary, I absolutely agree. Such a dumb premise for a fight.

The farm/chicken thing is also strange, as the Pre-Crisis Superboy wouldn't have been on a farm - his parents still ran the General Store and had a picket-fence house.

In the Green Lantern/Parallax issue, when Hal Jordan murdered Electropolis and victory was declared by the "referee", the surviving Electropolitans in ZH Metropolis faded out of existance.

209? Surely there have been more than 209 Legionnaires over the years, right?

Ok, so this was a nice little story, that sets up a lot of tension, but ultimately it goes nowhere. Nothing gets resolved except the fight between the Legion and the Atomic Knights. Yet in the end, everyone is still trapped. Will this get resolved in some other Convergence title this month? Does it even matter? Since these events happened pre-Crisis, the events are old news, unless the New DC Universe is starting right here and bypassing the next 30 years of Legion history. Either way, with no new Legion title launching in June, the Legion Convergence story actually goes nowhere fast.

DC: So you people want your old Legion/Outsiders/JSA/etc? Fine, here's a two issue story so you can bid farewell once and for all.
Fans: Ummm, could we at least have a GOOD story if it has to be this way?
DC: Bah!

It is almost as if Diddy-Yo is intentionally making the stories bad, so that when they're poorly received, he can say, "See, people don't want to read about these characters any more." It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Watching television is not an activity.

I didn't think the story on this was completely bad, if you ignore the fact that it's supposed to be the pre-Crisis team. It was just kind of "blah" for the most part. The art... however.

Just read it, and found it alright actually. Some moments were a little "off", and Jacques isn't getting a good run in Convergence, but it could have been worse. Still not sure why Gardner and crew didn't fade away like in other titles, assuming it's something in the main book. Also, considering they say they are about to team up witht eh Knights and go after Telos, are they going to appear in the main book?

Once again, the alternate cover featured Saturn Girl, who did not appear in the story.
"Gee, Brainy, what do you want to do tonight?" "The same thing we do every night, Bouncing Boy: try to take over the United Planets!!" They're B.B. and The Brain ...

I felt that I got to learn a lot more about the team from this issue. Despite it being a placeholder issue for a plot step in an Event, you did get to learn at least the role a few of the characters play in the team.
It's just a shame that the team was the Atomic Knights.
They have been through an apocalypse and face difficult, life threatening choices each day. Clark can relate because once his dad took some time off running the store to kill a chicken in front of him.
The Legion fare badly in the combat. Fortunately, despite living in a deadly world, the Knight's weapons seem to have a handy stun setting.
The two groups settle their differences and find out something about the Secret Wars Battleworld planet that they're stuck on. It's very much a holding issue, waiting for the nod from the parent series to continue elsewhere. A fight that doesn't really go anywhere. A tenuous framework is placed around it to try and give it a little depth.
It may be a different artist this time, but it still looks thrown together in a rush.
I was a bit disappointed in it from a Leigon stand point. Superboy conveniently does nothing and the Legion are generally ineffective. Brainy is reduced to his elitist persona, but strikes a decent relationship with his Knights counterpart. Ultra Boy is taken out easily using the wrong power no less. Ayla getting involved with Superboy makes my head shake sadly. Sun Boy references Monty Python while Ayla gives away Superboy's future wife. Pretty clunky stuff.

The only part of the issue that didn't annoy me was the science-bro banter between Brainy and the Atomic Knights science-dude.
The rest of it aggressively jumped on my tit.
Fortunately, I also bought A-Force 1 this week, and that was a fun read.

209? Surely there have been more than 209 Legionnaires over the years, right? Probably. I'm pretty sure you could fit 209 war refugees from Earth-All-Blowed-Up-Sir in Blok's storage tesseract with his art.

Dirk moving in on the girl who's surviving an apocalypse just down the road. Count on Dirk to keep the race alive. Ick!
