Not sure I like the idea of Mon El taking Supe's place in the 21st century. I think what makes him so interesting is the very fact that he spends 1,000 years in the zone before getting out in the legions time.
If hes out now how and when does he go back in?

I'm sure he'll wind up back in there...at least I hope so. If they retcon the part about spending a thousand years in the zone out of the continuity it won't really be Mon-El anymore...
Hell...it won't even be Valor.
I am pretty sure he winds up back in the zone...perhaps they are going to incorporate some of the Valor stuff into this continuity...like the seeding of Worlds...since L.E.G.I.O.N. is still around in a way it kinda makes sense for some of the Valor stuff to be around in a way.
We'll see what happens...I didn't really like the Valor character as I felt they made him too much like Superman/boy and took away from what made Mon-El a unique and enigmati character...we'll see see how they do it this time around...the more well known and legendary he becomes the less enigmati he becomes IMO...so hopefully they won't over do it. I always viewed Mon-El as more of an explorer or scientist than a Superman ripoff. He does the Superhero thing out of a sense of honor or duty...because he is so powerful, but if left to his own devices he'd go exploring the Universe.
In any case...since Mon-El is my favorite Legionaire...I am always happy to see him getting solo time, especially in a Superman title...I'll definitely be buying this arc.

I think this is fine. It's certainly not a permanent situation. Nothing wrong with giving Mon some action.

Should we worry that it didn't mention Lo3W # 5? I'd think that if it's coming in March, it'd be big enough to merit mention in the preview solicits.
Hope that's just my Legion-centric mistake.

I think it is a good sign because it ought to show the DC to take another look at the sales rising on Action Comics with Mon-El in it and they will realize that without Mon-El, the sales will be much lower than that. That there are the Legion fans out there.

If James Robinson is writing him, this has the potential to be a great deal more than merely fine. Robinson really has a history of working some magic on fringe supporting type characters(and Mon-El fits that bill in many ways to non-Legion fans)..in fact he's got a record of making them into actual stars(of the non-mainstream type). I mean Robinson actually has me interested in the Guardian, for the first time ever. He's really good with these overlooked characters with interesting backstories. Mon-El seems tailor made for him. "The one good man who lives there(in the zone)" as Robinson put it....after reading that line I already know I'm gonna like the direction he takes Mon character wise. I already like what he's done with Jimmy Olsen and Krypto as well. Ironically enough, the worst part of his run so far has been his characterization of Supes himself...probably because Supes is too much of a known quantity. And I agree...I think Mon eventually winds up back in the zone. But if he doesn't I will protest that unless there is a good reason for it(as well as a good story telling why). I am looking forward to the arc...and Mon-El getting the treatment by an, at times, genius writer.

With the supposition that Superman is leaving to go into space for a bit, I wonder if Mon-El is intended to 'fill in' for him a bit? And now that I've read the solicit, uh, yeah. I'll shut up now.

Oh no... does that mean I have to buy a regular Superman monthly???? Not so sure if that's good news... and I thought Robinson was out of DC due to creative trouble with Didio???

Which made Mark Waid really on the hook, apparently too. Mon-El was his best during L.E.G.I.O.N and v4 era. Before that, he was too much of a (powerful) sidekick to Superman.

The problem with Mon is that's he's too powerful, and too similiar to Superboy, thus in the past, scripters tended to place him "on the shelf" in the Legion's most epic battles. Levitz was particularly guilty of this, look at Mon-El's (non)roles during Earthwar, Omega, The Great Darkness, LSH-LSV War, and the Magic Wars...

Oh, I always thought Mon-El had a very important part during OMEGA... being punched senseless by Omega showed how strong Omega was, i always thought that special scene was very powerful. As far as I remember, it may have even been the first time I saw Mon-El ever... so that was my first impression of Mon: Being punched by Omega. Well, he never became my favorite hero

My question has always been, what was Mon's unique power? U-Boy had the vision thing going, but Daxamites are 'bout the same as kyrptonians, right? So, at a time when supposedly there had to be a power that wasn't duplicated by an already existing legionaire, what was Mon's?

K-class folks were exempted from the unique rule. Think of Kara, too.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

Mon-El's special power that Superboy doesn't have is the amazing ability to not fall over clutching his nads in the presence of Kryptonite.

Well, Star Boy had the whole Gravity/Mass thing, U-Boy had the penetra/flash vision....I don't know, the "K" class thing seems kinda weak.
