The best part of this issue was the add for JLU Annual #1 which showed just about the whole Legion including Tenzil, Dirk and Thom, the Lost team. No Quislet or Night Girl but who knows.
"Our devotion to each other was unexplainable" "You were kids" "No Batman, we were Legion"
I flipped through this at the store. Looked like only Dawny was in it, presumably as a member of JLU 5 years into the future. There wasn't enough Legion in it for me to consider buying.
Maybe. Of course with Thom and Dirk being alive, I'm wondering if the Legion team we saw in the last volume along with the Legion Lost team might actually be a completely separate, sixth Legion.

Dawny is the only Legion appearance, but Wildfire is mentioned. (He didn't show up for Green Arrow's funeral.)
Dawnstar doesn't do anything Dawnstarry. In fact, there were a couple of places in the story where I wondered why she was sitting or standing there instead of doing her tracking thing.
"Everything about this is going to feel different." (Saturn Girl, Legion of Super-Heroes #1)
Yeah, not worth it if you're in it for the Legion. Dawnstar is part of Cyborg's Justice League, but she doesn't really do much in the story except to say "In the 31st century it's not like this" a few times. Kind of a waste.
I dunno. I think that's the same artist who did the cover for the upcoming Justice League United annual. It would make sense if DC wanted to go back to the previous volume as the last one got so messed up. Nice to see Matter-Eater Lad, Sun Boy and Star Boy.
Yes it was a disappointment. The only thing it tells me is that Legion Lost has been stuck in the past for at least five years. Wildfire is mentioned but that's it. Nothing about the others. She also should have been the one to know where Manhunter was. Not Equinox.

Kind of sad, really. Now non-Legion fans will think that the Legionnaires all have the power of repetitive whining and stating the obvious.
Legion stuff aside, this was another poor issue of JLU. Lemire continues to make strange narrative choices. We have cell phones in Canada you know, and I'd hazard to say they have them in San Diego too. But Equinox takes hours to fly all the way to Buddy's house and then all the way to JL headquarters to relay the emergency message about the J'onn and the Gulag.
Everything he writes in the super-hero universe seems to be set-up, and not very interesting set-up while the payoffs tend to be a let down. I'm hoping for a turnaround with the Legion arriving soon.

Seriously... get the characterization right! Dawnstar should utter the phrase "I will now use the tracking powers that earned me a place in the Justice League!" at least once per issue!
To keep inwith previous Legion appearances, I'd have went with "My tracking powers have failed once more. Our prey may no longer be in our universe or the writer hates me."
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
Also, why wouldn't Dawnstar have flown herself to Mars, or scout ahead even. She could make that trip in the blink of an eye given her interstellar capabilities. I don't think I've ever seen her in a cruiser when she didn't have to be, even if she just flew alongside.
Perhaps Lemire went with having pretty panels over story. "I need a Legionnaire to stand around and do nothing. Might as well pick Dawnstar, so at least I can have a very visually striking one!"

Maybe that will be in the last issue of the story arc. because heaven forbid Dawnstar actually do anything before then
We're 5 years later (better done in the early TMK issues) Superheroes have had a hard time of it (Better done in Kingdom Come & DKR) There's a gulag imprisoning super villains (better done again in Kingdom Come) Superheroes are incredibly dim in allowing the villains a clear escape route. Killer Frost lost whatever reputation she had left, getting beaten so easily.
The good news is that the issue stood on it's own without me needing to have the first idea about Future's End.
Since it's JLUnited it's only fair that the story involves their members more than the others. Despite the cover, that's not Dawnstar. Equinox* is the central character here, with appearances from Animal Man and J'Onzz.
Dawnstar is a member of the main Justice League, run by Cyborg. She gets about as much dialogue as the likes of someone called Vostok and someone else called Stormguard. We get Takron Galtos/ dangerous villains related comments, a comment about Mars and one about Wildfire.
I bought it anyway because this is the Dawnstar from Legion Lost, and the Legion I want back. Is it worth the pennies? Since prices go up and up, for negligible quality/page increases, probably not. But I'd say that about pretty much any title from the big two.
There's an ad for the Annual next month, which I'll also pick up. I'll get the second part of this too, if Dawny is in it.
*You know when you're growing up and you have comics and characters of your own? Equinox was one of my main ones. I always get a little tingle when I see the names getting used years down the road. Mianly as companies mine dictionaries in desperation.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
Like with Parallax, or Extant, whose names have nothing to do with their powers but hey the X makes it sound cool without DC being too blatant in ripping of the X-Men?
