I was re-reading past issues containing Rond Vidar, partially because I just purchased the Rond Vidar sculpt for HeroClix. Anyway, in Final Crisis: Lo3W #2, after Rond is killed off by Superboy Prime, Universo mentions that perhaps Rond's son might join him in conquering the galaxy since Rond as honorary Legionnaire and Green Lantern did not. Do any of you remember another instance of Rond Vidar having a son?
This is one dangling plot thread that would be interesting to see followed up on.

Hmm I don't think it was ever referenced again.

Thanks for shaing the excerpt that I was talking about.
I've always felt that Rond Vidar's death was among the most brutal Legionnaire deaths in Legion history. He had so much un-tapped potential as a character and from a marketing standpoint. I would have thought a Green Lantern Legionnaire would have made the Legion title more profitable in today's market. Levitz tried to compensate by having Mon-El become a Green Lantern, but that was short lived. Now Justice League 3000 has a futuristic Green Lantern. Too bad the Legion franchise didn't cash in on Rond Vidar and his son instead of killing him off on Lo3W.

I've often wondered since the White Witch had a partial portal open trying to reach Rond, and physically/emotionally experienced his death, weather it might be possible for Mysa to have absorbed his life force/soul kind of like Spock and Dr. McCoy in the Star Trek movies. Could a Rond Vidar resurrection be in the cards someday?

I wouldn't mind seeing Rond resurrected. The Legion having its own GL is really cool, but Sodam Yat isn't really fit for it. He can be Mon El's Daxamite buddy though.

Rond Vidar was a victim of the plot. At this time, Johns was building up for 'War of the Light'. He wanted Sodom Yat to be the last GL in the 31st century to tie his books together.

I was looking forward to Rond & Laurel's daughter becoming a Green Lantern of the future.

I wonder who the mother is in this timeline? Sadly, Laurel doesn't exist in the Retroboot-verse either...
Universo's "regret" over Rond's death is... slightly touching and also a bit weird. Universo was the one who tried to kill Rond, once upon a time.
Poor Rond. A resurrection would be great.

Wasn't there speculation about Harmonia Li being the mother?
I suppose there's nothing explicitly ruling out Laurel G. being around and being the mother.

I agree 100% about the lost potential of marketing. Rond was a good established character and by killing him off it was like shooting themselves in the foot. I also thought them making Mon-El the GL was dumb. It’s didn’t seem right from the beginning. Not when there’s many more characters that could have pulled it off better. Cosmic Boy, Element Lad, Chameleon Boy, Dream Girl to name a few. But having even a new character would have been better. Also, Rond just looked cool!

- The relationship with his father and the latter's plans. - The great triangle between Rond, Brainy and Laurel. Brainy preoccupied, Laurel having to deny her feelings and Rond with very close ties to them both. - Green Lanterns not allowed on Earth, even the friendly ones. - The GLC being powerful, but with different aims than the Legion. - Harmonia Li's issues with the flying foetus.
all pluses, but why let them get in the way of a pointless death.

Yeah, Rond's death was a dark mark on an otherwise really enjoyable story.

DC seems to specialize in foot shots these past few years.
First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

Yeah, I was impressed that DC/HeroClix designed a sculpt of him since he was more of a minor character (in his Green Lantern psersona).
Am I correct that LSH v. 3 #50 and FC Lo3W #2 were the only issues in which Rond Vidar appeared as Green Lantern within the Original/Retroboot era?
Did Rond show up as Green Lantern in the Reboot or Threeboot eras?

I didn't really love that LO3W story for a number of reasons but one of them was the short-sighted way it killed off Brande, McCauley, Rond & Myg...essentially wiping out a whole bunch of potential story opportunities and narrowing the Legion's universe. Then Levitz killed off Zendak, we never saw Shvaughn...with Yera graduating to a full member of the team, the Legion's entire non-team supporting cast was pretty much stripped down to a suddenly antagonistic Gigi and Gim's mother. Even Harmonia who was set up as an interesting recurring character initially quickly became a full-fledged member of the team (which was handled terribly but that's a different complaint),
At some point someone really should have stepped in and realised how badly they were limiting the scope of the Legion's world by getting rid of anyone who's not actually a team member from the book. It's not even about whether you like or dislike the character, it's just bad world building...

Well said, Raz. The Retroboot was a terrible thing all around, in my opinion.

There's a couple of more appearances of him as a GL in the original version. He shows up at least once in late v3, in a single panel where he offers his help to the Legion but is refused (in the Magic Wars, maybe?). Then, of course, there's his appearance in early v4 where he is captured and the Green Lantern ring is destroyed. Rond appears a fair amount in the reboot, but is never revealed as a GL, and I don't believe he appeared at all in the threeboot.

I'm still wondering why Rond Vidar/Green Lantern got a HeroClix sculpt with so few appearances in Legion comics. Has he appeared in any other Green Lantern series?
