When you first got into the books, which Legionnaire made you want to keep reading about the Legion? For me, it was Cosmic Boy.

The first Legion comic I read had Cosmic Boy in it, not long before the Baxter series. But I don't think it was any one character. I think it was the whole group and the setting...

A lot of the 5YG characters became firm favourites, including Laurel Gand.

Ultra Boy, with whom I very much identified:

- A poor kid who fell in with the wrong crowd, but whose drive helped him rise above those humble beginnings; who was fiercely loyal to his lady-love; and who - for a brief, regrettable period in the '90's - wore his hair in an embarrassing pony-tail.

Oddly enough, I think it was Invisible Kid in the SW6 era. He was described as shy and intelligent. My LW name is half-borrowed from him. Oddly enough, I don't particularly like Lyle Norg anymore.

Shadow Lass. One of the first Legion issues I bought was a years-old copy of Baxter #56, the one with the unforgettable Steve Lightle cover of Blok; at the time, I bought it mainly because Eduardo Barreto guest-pencilled the insides. Even though Shadow Lass wasn't the featured character, I was impressed by her passion and her courage and her fighting spirit, and I wanted to know more about her.

Mon-El. Crazy powerful, half a head taller than Superboy, and twice as broad across the shoulders. But an equally tragic (although far different) history. I didn't particularly identify with him, but I liked Superboy, and it was nice he had a friend. And the belonged to the same club!

Then Blok, because, you know, philosophy.

Then (the original) Laurel Gand. Actually brought me back to the Legion for a little while. Because, you know, Laurel Gand.

I liked 'em all. But if I had to pick, I'd say Invisible Kid.

As mentioned above, SW6 Invisible Kid was my first. Oddly enough, SW6 Cosmic Boy was another early fave. I identified with both - unassuming guys with leadership thrust upon them. I'm not a particularly big fan of any of the versions of Rokk or Lyle now, though.

When the Postboot Era rolled around, it was Live Wire, Kinetix Apparition, XS and Cosmic Boy who caught my eye. Each had issues I could relate with - Live Wire's angst over his siblings, Kinetix's passionate desire to get power as a means of feeling useful,, Tinya's struggles with her mom's approval, XS' doubts over her role as a hero, and Cosmic Boy's struggles with leadership (although he certainly took to it quite well!). I have gained a newfound appreciation for Rokk via the Postboot reread thread, but I don't rank him as highly as the other four.

It would have to be either Supergirl or Saturn Girl. Does it count if I was a fan of Supergirl before I knew the Legion existed?

If she doesn't count, then it would be Saturn Girl. I used that name on a now defunct comic book site.

hmmm Invisible Kid has lots of fans ...

I think the first ones I thought were really cool were Sun Boy, whom giffen used to draw zipping everywhere at light speed ... and I remember his flirtatious and impulsive nature made him seem more 3D than pretty much every other comic character I noticed.

and Karate Kid who handed Projectra's evil relative his butt ... on their honeymoon ... (in tiny speedos).

bUT in retrospect it should have been Cham, since my introduction to the LSH was during his journey to Durla with RJ Brande. A great storyline!

The the first character I thought "he's so cool, I think I'll read more!" was Wildfire. He was only in the book for one panel in some story that featured Lightning Lad and the Luck lords.

My first Comic Book was SLSH #197, so Timber Wolf was my favorite from the start, Wildfire with his return in SLSH #201 became my 2nd favorite, Karate Kid got his own title and that put him in my top three, Dawnstar debuting around this time put her ahead of the rest of the ladies, I would have to put in the Super-Cousins to round out my top 5, I could go on and on.

I tried to rip their soul out.I tried to make them forget Superman.
But they won't.

WILDFIRE!! No, seriously. It wasn't even until over a decade later that I started reading the title, but I read a LSH that belonged to a friend, and there was a sequence where he blasted out of his suit and his limp "body" landed on Blok's head. It seemed so weird to me at the time as a little kid, I was just intrigued by someone so powerful, yet so vulnerable at the same time. It wasn't until years later, reading "Crisis" that I was able to catch his name or know what comic book that was that I had read.

My first exposure was a friend's collection when I was in the fifth grade, back in the
early seventies. The first story I read was the first *Adult* Legion appearance. Which
if memory serves, may have been the first appearance of the hall of dead heroes. Remember
thinking "...this is a story about the, (at the time, fixed...) ***Future*** of a band
of heroes from the future, whom Superman used to have adventures with in his *Past*** when
he first began his career as Superboy.

The statues depicted were seared onto my psyche indelibly. I wondered about these, as
yet, previously unseen heroes who gave their lives for the greater good. The hero that
drew me in most was ***Reflecto.*** Not much information was given about these heroes,
so I decided to keep reading. It was a long wait before Reflecto appeared again.

Was it worth the wait??

Meanwhile, other heroes came into focus I would really keep reading for. Cham, Brainy,
Supergirl, Quislet, Tellus, Atmos, Computo, Kono, Kid Q, Kinetix, Gates, XS, Andromeda, Monstress,
Gear. So many under utilized characters. I wonder why?? I'd love to see that initial
*Adult* Legion re-surface. There are enough alternate Earths around to assign one to
that Legion.

Given the state of Comic-Dom the past couple of decades...It's been hard to get excited
about any *new* developments involving my favorite group of heroes.

jesjos, that Adult Legion story was also my first exposure to the Legion, and it had the same impact on me.

As a kid I first encountered the Legion from my older brother's stash of comics that dated back to the 1960's. I have to say I really thought Ultra Boy was cool back then. His latest look in the recent Levitz run with long hair and new costume was a refreshing update.
