This thread is not just for me. It’s also for you to express some continuity tweek ideas that you had that you think would have worked better than what was done. But try to think of ideas you had at the time because anyone can come up with changes now with hindsight.
Myself, I had two ideas that could have worked with well with the continuity with the Legion and Superman/Boy.
1. Superboy was only Superboy when he was with the Legion. This idea actually happened but I thought of it way back when the Legion first met the new John Byrne run of Superman. This was a way to explain Superman never having been Superboy in present day and he has no memory of it because Saturn Girl made him forget those times. To me this is something that could still be done.
2. Mon-El becomes Superboy. Way back after the death of Superman and they announced that there was going to be four Superman replacements. It was well rumored that there was going to be a Superboy. What I had hoped was going to happen was that he was Lar Gand who came to Earth and lost his memory. He takes the name Superboy because he thinks he’s Kryptonian. He later meets Superman. Superman thinking he was Kryptonian gives him the name Mon-El. He continues as Superboy for a while before Superman has to put him into the phantom Zone. Later to be taken out by the Legion. He keeps then name Superboy and there you go.

These both have the same problem, which is that even though these fixes would mean that Superman and Legion don't literally contradict, it's as confusing to non-long-time readers and as annoying to Superman readers as if they did just contradict.
Furthermore, the whole reason the mess happened in the first place is that the Superman editorial team wins over the Legion's editorial team, and that same reason prevented these or any other fixes from happening. Or in other words, if it had been possible to make the fixes you suggested, we wouldn't have needed them.
Besides, just before the line-wide DC reboot, the explanation used *was* that Superboy was only Superboy when he was with the Legion, but without any amnesia--that is, he was plain Clark in the present day and only used his code name and costume when he was with the Legion.

I'm ok with Number 1. That's pretty much what happened in the Legion toon, except that Clark retained memories of the Legion in the present day.

The issue with #1 for me is all the times the Legion interacted with the residents of Smallville. It was as much fun to see Lana, Pete and the Kents as it was to see Superboy. Just taking Superboy away from that makes it lose it's appeal.

This isn't exactly in keeping with the premise of the thread, but I'd like to see a Legion continuity, probably only in an Elseworlds or whatever kind of setting, in which the Legionnaires debated the idea of Saturn Girl's mental block in Superboy and decided not to 'install' them. Dream Girl could be his mentor in dealing with future-knowledge. That could be fun.
All the negative stuff they feared would have the makings of a good, if depressing, story.
Of course, the 'revelation' at the end of the most recent volume puts a whole other spin on the necessity of these blocks, anyway. If it's some other Superboy's future , why not have the the Superboy time travelling to visit you find out details about other-dimensional versions of himself? Of course, the Legionnaires don't necessarily know all that, do they?

Smallvile
Cosmic Boy: Hi Clark! We've come to invite you to the future again! Superboy: I'm not going there! Cosmic Boy: Ah, C'mon. It'll be fun. It's the Fatal Five this month. Superboy: I'm not going! I've seen what happens to me! Cosmic Boy: What? Superboy: You say it will be the Fatal Five. But it could be the Trapper behind them and then I get killed. I'm not going. Cosmic Boy: Imra? Could you you pop over for a second?

I guess I do think of things more from a Legion fan perspective rather a Superman/non-Legion fan. For me though It's all about getting Superboy back with the Legion in some way. Though I'm not a fan of the current Superboy at all! I'd love the Superboy from the Animated series. The one from the Legion future!

Actually that's a thought.
In 2955 temporal research, part funded by Brande industries, breaks the time barrier. They view the past, but are thwarted from seeing the future by an Iron Curtain of Time.
In 2957, with the aide of a Coluan 12th level intelligence, the curtain is breached. A glorious future is witnessed with the galaxy protected by Superboy.
In 2958 Brande is rescued by 3 teenagers. Using the example of the future he has seen, Brande guides them to form the Legion of Superheroes. The Legion then try to recruit their inspiration.
The Legion have strange adventures in this future and several possible alternate time lines, containing super animals and Smallville clone clusters.
