So, apparently in the early sixties John Wayne was friends with Ed Hamilton and Leigh Brackett, and would apparently stay with them on occasion.

So... I wonder if Hamilton ever discussed the latest Legion story he was writing with the Duke?

Man! I never knew this! Via my dad, my knowledge of the Duke is extensive!

I wonder...is early Sun Boy's alpha male-ness inspired by the Duke?

Maybe I should read Garth's dialogue with the Duke's voice? "The moby dick...I see it...in my dreams...I...I know I should look away...but I can't."

I learned about it awhile back via the Leigh Brackett FB group! It seemed so bizarre to think of them hanging out, but Wayne apparently became good friends with Brackett when he was filming Rio Bravo (which she wrote the script for).

But it amuses me to imagine EH talking about Nardo or something with Wayne!

I know! I keep thinking about it. Imagine Hammy having beers with Duke and talking about whether he should expel Star Boy?

But we never got a Legion western story!

Now I have a vision of a Legion movie, with John Wayne as R.J. Brande.

John Wayne would be Karate Kid, the Asian version.

That movie was called "The Green Berets"
