DC Comics...
Reading like clockwork and buying your product monthly since 1978
Getting rid of The Legion....putting out crap product...
NOT COOL!
So you think comics are "all about business" "money" ..
over the fans and the story telling...
38 YEARS OF BUSINESS FROM THIS READER...
NOW GONE!
guess it is all about money...
Sorry, won't have mine anymore

I think that "all about business" was fan board speculation. I know I brought up the topic in some threads.
I'm sure there was honest attempt to reach a broader spectrum of audience. For me to infer blackness in their heart probably has more to do with blackness in my heart than anything.
Like you seem to be, I'm somewhat bitter. It's THEIR product, but it means something to ME.

I'm also kind of bitter at the point of this breakup. But you know what? I've got tons and TONS of great memories reading DC Comics that will always be with me and be a part of me. I can always re-read the great Legion runs, Superman runs, Batman runs, etc. I loved to relive those memories.
So the divorce is a little messy, but I'll always have our great "kids", y'know?

yeah...but.
I love my back issues. But they don't generate that excitement of a monthly book that has you by the short hairs with anticipation, waiting to see whats next.
I had a few hints of that in this last run, but they were only that, hints, like the heart was gone. Completely UNLIKE what Paul is doing on World's Finest.
And I have to say I am thoroughly sick of Death/Gore/Dismemberment as pure shock value. you blew up earth. You blew up Titan. Killing members of the team ain't gonna do it.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!
Something pithy!

Despite my emotional response to the last issue (since the emotion really had nothing to do with the Legion or the story itself) I feel surprisingly little bitterness at DC and its devolution. I probably should; it's been 46(!) years for me. Maybe I'll feel differently around the third Wednesday of next month when my Legion addiction starts itching and can't be scratched. But I think I've just outgrown the medium, or at least its current trends. Unlike Lardy, I just haven't moved over to indies...yet.

If you're going to kill Legionnaires, let them have a heroic moment. Seems like it's been forever since they really got that moment. (Reboot Garth may have been the last, imo.) Even preboot, some of the deaths, like Pol's, Dirk's, Laurel's and even Lyle's were all kind of pitiful at best, I'd argue.

Once upon a time I never thought I'd be able to give up DC comics. That universe was literally an 'addiction' for me.
But now that it's been two years since I bought anything from that company, I have no idea why it took me so long to give them up. Hobbies are meant to provide entertainment and release. But for me (and many at Legion World by the sound of it) they became nothing but endless sources of disappointment and angst.
I urge anyone else who feels similar to just finally move on from them. You will feel a LOT better.

After the latest wave of cancellations I'm down to Earth 2 (but only until Robinson's run ends), Worlds' Finest, Larfleeze, All-Star Western and Justice League Dark (and the last two are on the chopping block).
Unfortunately, I'm really not all that impressed with Image, either (although Saga and the Manhattan Project are intriguing), and I gave up on Marvel when they started flooding the market with garbage for the sole purpose of driving companies like Eclipse and First out of business (I will never forgive them for that).
I guess it's time to invest in those back issues of Nexus, the Badger and other favorites I had to give up for financial reasons back in '86.
First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

Word and a half (or whatever a step up from "Word" is). When others wrote above how long they've been reading the Legion, it reminded me that my own 40th anniversary passed last December without notice. I haven't read comics regularly in about seven years, and the last new LSH comic I picked up was the first issue of Levitz's current run. I feel for those of you who think you've lost something. It's no comfort, I know, to tell you that cancelling the Legion *is* a business decision on DC's part, or to suggest that, whatever the current state of the Legion is, DC can and probably will revive them at some point in the future. Of course, doing so doesn't mean fans will be any happier with that version of the Legion than they have been with the current one. "Life is change/how it differs from the rocks," Jefferson Airplane once sang. But even Jefferson Airplane/Starship isn't what it used to be. The objects of our fannish obsessions move on, and so must we. Ironically, re-reading the old Archives stories has given me a fresh perspective on all this. Some of those old stories, as many of us have pointed out, weren't all that good. Some "classic" stories, in fact, were bad. When people complain that the current Legion stories are also bad, I have to wonder if they truly are or if it us who have changed. Comics today are targeted to readers who are used to video games--blow things up every few seconds because the audience has a short attention span. If DC is truly trying to appeal to this audience, look at what they have to compete with. (I'm not sure what to make of Didio's comment that DC creates comics for 45-year-old men. Of course, since the comment was reported by a third party source, its authenticity and context are suspect.) The above does not mean that recent Legion stories were "good" (however we want to quantify "good"); however, it's clear that these stories were not meeting the needs of long-time fans and failing to attract a new audience. As painful as this is, sometimes it is best to let it go. It gets better. It really does.

An argument can be made that there are more great comics out there today than ever before in the industry.
Just none of them are by DC.
If you love the medium, and want to figure out how not to drop comics all together, there's more than enough out there to keep readings comics. You'll just have to give up the comfort of sticking with DC. But when you do, it'll feel so good.

These days I'm pretty much a Marvel Zombie... MARVEL NOW succeeded in bringing me back into the Marvel universe full-force. We'll see if it continues long-term.
As for DC, I've spoken with my wallet. I'm down to LARFLEEZE, AQUAMAN and WORLDS' FINEST. *3* DC's a month. That's certainly the lowest level of my purchases from them since I started this hobby. I may pick up BATMAN '66. But I owe the NEW 52 no loyalty whatsoever and will drop any of these few remaining titles the very second they displease me.

Same here with me, I'm down to Earth 2. Period. Green Lantern I quit after Johns left, and none of the new stuff I tested after the Reboot could get me hooked. Take Ressurection Man for example, that was a great book when it came out in the 90s, but now, same writing team but a mess...
Will have a look at the Forever Evil book out of curiosity, but don't have high hopes. My major part of the monthly pull list is over at Image now, JMS doing new stuff, Whispers, Ravine, Saga, Morning Glories, lots of good ideas. Ideas being the thing DC is missing most...

Both Action and Superman have been surprisingly fun. Action has has a bit of humor. Not being a long time Superman reader, I can't say I recall much of that. If they ever get past the infinite origins stories for the movies, a little of that would be nice.
JLA went into a massive crossover, meaning 4 out of 6 books I'd need to read the story I do not normally get. So I dropped JLA.

I'm switching over to Marvel. My loyalty to Legion is the only thing that's kept me aboard DC for years. My only explanation is Marvel must pay a lot better because they have the talent. Whereas Marvel's characters have complex histories, rich backgrounds, complicated alliances, understandable motivations, etc. etc. DC seems to still be using the model of "I am a self-proclaimed SUPER-HERO, and you are a self-proclaimed SUPER-VILLAIN, therefore we must fight!" That just doesn't get it for me anymore.

As I've said in another thread ... the new Villains Forever reminded me way too much of Ryan Choi's death ... I mean whether you like death or not ... it's just a cheap copy.

Blockade Boy reminds me;
I was giving Justice League of America a shot, because I kind of loved the idea of so many lower-tier Heroes on a team (Katana? Steve Trevor-with-a-gun?), and for Martian Manhunter to literally be the 'big gun,' and not have to share the stage with Superman or Shazam. Hawkman has also always seemed like a character with a ton of potential that has been, not always spectacularly successful in its execution...
And then Trinity War. Of which I have bought nothing. After it ends, I *might* have been persuaded to pick it back up, but I'm no longer really feeling it, so perhaps not. DC might have accidentally killed my interest in one of the last two titles I was buying consistently (other than the Legion).
I don't know what they are doing over there, but they sure don't seem to be writing comics for *this* forty-mumble-mumble-something year old!

Once upon a time, I'd have been excited about a series with Martian Manhunter, Catwoman, Stargirl and Katana. Now... Eh.

Trinity War may have just killed my interest in JL Dark, the last DCFU title I still buy.

I couldn't agree more with the original post here!!!
HOW, in the midst of an all-time maximum popularity of super-heroes, amidst the ungodly (though sometimes unjustified) popularity of tween dramas such as Twilight and Hunger Games, and in the presence of a wildly popular re-imagining of Star Trek, do you eff up a series about teenage super-heroes 1000 years in the future!?!? ... HOW!!!?????!!
DC short-sightedly measures everything by the yardstick of the highly fickle, niche comic fandom community.
And even for them, does DC care about 55 years of tradition? Evidently not.
@&*%$ you, DC!!! IF you don't see the vast potential of the Legion, you are HOPELESS!!!!!

I'm obviously sad to see the end of the Legion. Particularly as it was the version I connected to most.
However, I gave all of DCs new reboot titles a chance. So, they had 52 chances to capture my attention. I was down to reading a handful within a few months and that's dwindled to nothing. My bat friend does still pick up the core bat books (which I snuck a read of), but has also felt the interest ebb.
I'm not bitter or upset. DC view things through sales. I won't give them a sale without some quality. If they can produce a book that has some, and can now knock another book out of my pull list, then I'd take a look.
After the dreadful run of 52, Countdown and Multiversal Clunking of Infinite Crisis, there wasn't much loyalty left. I gave everything in the reboot a fair chance, but the quality just isn't there, never mind value for money.
I should get some sort of rebate voucher for buying the first few issues of Stormwatch.
