They could stop the presses before the first issue hits the stands as far as I'm concerned.

The Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire combo is going to sell decently initially. Attaching the words "Justice League" will also ensure copies sold.

If this creative team remains together, the book will last... 25 issues.

8 issues.

Even though I'm planning to read the first one out of curiosity (and I like Giffen about half the time), I don't see this selling too strongly. Legion fans will hate it on principle, don't know if JL fans will go for it and I expect another editorial-creative blow-up, with the creative team walking off the project. Threshold didn't do well, although it was using versions of minor characters, not the big guns.

Wake me up when it's over.

First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

I'd be surprised if Giffen stays on for the first five issues. Editorial is sure to raise it's hackles at some point.

Still, how long did Justice League International last? 12 issues? Then I'll hedge my bet and say 12 issues of this title as well.

Giffen's a Company Man who's also writing Larfleeze, He-Man and a bunch of other stuff for DC. DeMatteis is co-writing Phantom Stranger with the DiDiot himself. And Maguire's been one of the artists on Worlds' Finest since it launched.

(And that's before you count JLE. Or the Annuals. Or the revisits...)

JLI (later retitled to JLA) went up another 30+ issues right?

And JLE (retitled to JLI with #50 or 51) lasted nearly 70 issues total.

It could be written by Shakespeare and drawn by Michelangelo... if no one buys it then it's still a flop.

With DC alienating fans left and right, I'm hoping the entire "new 52" won't last another year.

JLAmerica #60 was the end of the Giffen/DeMatteis(/Maguire) run. If you want the whole line, beyond their run:
*Justice League/Justice League International v1/Justice League America #1-113; plus a #0 issue, ten Annuals, two Specials and one "Spectacular".
*Justice League Europe/Justice League International v2 #1-68, plus five Annuals.
*Justice League Quarterly #1-17
*Justice League Task Force #1-37 + #0

(I may have missed some)

Plus the G/DeM/M revisits:
*Formerly Known as the Justice League #1-6
*JLA: Classified #4-9: I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League
*DC Retroactive 1990s: Justice League America one-shot

[Note that just the revisits add up to 13 issues, MoV...]

Thanks, 'Boot!

And the portion of JLE/JLI that was theirs was JLE 1-33 or 34, I think.

I have Formerly Known As and I Can't Believe. Both very nice reads.

Depends exactly how you count it. DeMatteis only scripted JLE #1-8 & #13 (although he did write the concurrent Martian Manhunter mini solo); but Giffen continued plotting both books until JLAmerica #60 and JLE #35 (the end of "Breakdowns", a FIFTEEN-part JLAm/JLE crossover).

Thanks for the info, 'Boot.

It would be very (insert word here) if the Breakdowns crossover ends up lasting more issues than this series will.

I think it will be a factor of the creative team staying together. Maguire only lasted-- iirc-- 24 issues of the JL run (not counting fill-ins). Comics sold a LOT more back then, and DC had a LOT more goodwill back then too.

I will be SHOCKED if the Giff/DeM/Maguire team lasts 24 issues on this run (including 3-5 artist fill-ins), but if it does, I still think 25 issues will be guaranteed (unless the New 52 unboots itself before then-- a strong possibility).

Oh, forgot that I needed to be more specific these days. I meant the Nu52 Justice League International title by Jurgens.
