I wonder if that mace will make it into the new series. Probably considered an "ancient device" by then 31st century.

Is there a short version of how they cleared it up in JSA?

Carter Hall's wikipedia entry gives a fairly good summary of how they reconciled the various elements (nth metal and the Thanagar link, membership in both JSA and JLA) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkman_(Carter_Hall)

At their current batting average, they'd be sure to have at least three good ones!

Even before the New 52, they re-screwed it up in a "Strange Adventures" mini-series.

Hawkman's confusing backstory pains me a little, because I love the idea of ancient Egyptian backstory (Dr. Fate and Black Adam's Egyptian roots, for example, being more of an afterthought, most of the time), and yet I *also* love the idea of an alien space cop backstory.

Mixing the two of them together, in a Stargate-esque fashion, where aliens had some interaction with ancient Egypt, is the ideal solution, and yet it always seems to get bogged down with modern day questions about how the current Hawk-peeps interact with present-day Thanagar. Did they reincarnate here on Earth, as humans? Did they reincarnate on Thanagar, and return to Earth, where they were originally fated to re-unite? Do they have nothing to do with ancient Egypt? Nothing to do with Thanagar? Every writer seems to have their own notion.

And too many new writers seems to have their own desire to blow up Thanagar / Tamaran / Rann / etc. A rare few writers like to *create* exciting new worlds, like the Vegan system or Mogu, or new lands, like Atlantis or Feithera, but for every one of them, there are three more waiting in the wings to blow **** up and add nothing new to the DC universe like jealous siblings petulantly stomping all over their elder siblings sand castles.

Sadly, including Titan. And the Spectre blew up Atlantis before Flashpoint happened. And remember when San Diego sank? Oh, and New Krypton blew up too.

Wow, they're on a roll here.

Marvel's only doing marginally better. Genosha's been blown up, the Savage Land destroyed at least once, Asgard kicked out of it's home dimension and *then* blowed up, etc. I'm not even sure what the current state of Olympia (Eternal home city) or Attilan (Inhuman home city) is, but they've all taken hits.

I *love* characters that come with their own built-in 'universe,' such as Asgard or Atlantis or Themiscrya or Thanagar or the United Planets, so it bugs me when writers just trash them, or take the characters out of them and try to 'ground them' by putting them in New York and stripping away their personal mythology and supporting characters.

Here's a thought for the next writer to tackle such a character. Don't want to deal with Amazons and whatnot? Howabout *not* turning Diana into a powerless secret agent / spy, and actually write a story about an original character who is a secret agent / spy, and leave Wonder Woman the hell alone?

Ditto the Legion. Don't want to deal with the 31st century or the Academy or Titan or Flight Rings? Don't kidnap a bunch of Legionnaires to another time and place and make their tech stop working. Just don't ****ing write the Legion. Seems simple enough.

Legion Lost was OK for a short story arc, but I agree that I'd have hated for it to become a permanent ongoing. Stories like that should always end with the Legionnaires going home.

A story that removes a small group from the standard team and surroundings seems like an amazing opportunity to really explore and develop those characters, and give them the sort of spotlight that it would be harder to shine on them individually, as part of a 20 or 30 person team.

And yet, that opportunity never really came to anything, thanks to the crossover Teen Titans / Ravagers / Culling nonsense.

I think Fabian had the best intentions, but wasn't allowed to really develop on them.

it certainly started out as a fairly promising story, that's for sure. And since there were only 7 of them, they each got quite a bit of development. Too little, though. Sigh. If only they'd been kept out of all the crossovers...

I've created a petition to bring the Legion back on Change.org.

I've also registered www.longlivethelegion.com and www.justiceleague3000.com. Now, I need to figure out what I want to do with them...I may just redirect them to that page for now.

If that title becomes a worthwhile property they'll yank the domain name from you.

In the meantime though, while you'll probably get some traffic, I'm not sure what's the point of having people who like the new JL enough to type in its title into the url line to see what comes up only to find a site they probably don't agree with?

But longlivethelegion.com is a good one to have, either directing to the petition or legion world itself.

Still gives me chills anytime the Legionnaires yell, "Long Live the Legion!"

The LMB did that too, in the Dark Oval novella. Ah, warms the heart.

I hear you. I got the same reaction when they did it on Smallville.

Like they took away www.legionofsuper-heroes.com from me?!?

Anyway, I'll figure out what I want to do with them eventually.

DC is pulling out all the stops sending the JL3K creators on publicity interviews.

http://www.comicvine.com/articles/interview-j-m-dematteis-and-keith-giffen-talk-just/1100-146800/

So now Mr. Giffen has promised no time travel, no clones, no descendants.

And that he is lying.

And the "Fatal Five" will appear in JLA3K, but not that Fatal Five.

Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

Link the JL3K domain name to Roto-Rooter...?

As I mentioned earlier, there were some intriguing possibilities that they might do something cool, like with the Young Avengers, pitching a curve.

The more of these interviews I read, the less likely I think that will be.

I thought these interviews were supposed to make me *want* to read the book, and not be full of stuff about what the book *isn't* going to be about? This is sounding more like a political campaign, all about lowering expectations and promising that it won't be as bad as the other choice...
