Legal issues are apparently settled. It's historically one of DC's most successful concepts. Smallville was popular.

Why not give us an old school "Adventures of Superman when he was a boy" series?

I shudder at how bad current DC might screw it up, though!

Are the legal issues finally finished though? I seem to recall reading that one of the families was appealing the last ruling.

Also, I haven't really read it but, doesn't Morrisons Action suggest he never was Superboy in the New52? So that may be problematic.

I would say your best bet for a retro-Superboy tale or two will be the excellent Adventures of Superman.

Doesn't DC have a multiverse again, perhaps the Legion would be better off with their own universe complete with their own Kal-el and Kara outside of the current main DC universe.

I tried to rip their soul out.I tried to make them forget Superman.

If Batman 1966 is a success, they might consider old-school Superboy. But what year would you base it in?

Yeah, in all honesty, I have such lack of faith in them that I don't want them to touch any property / character that I really like for the forseeable future. I'd much rather have no Superboy than a Didio / Lee / Johns / Harris version of it.

Same goes for a whole plethora of concepts. I'd rather DC just fail first and everyone get fired, and then have to start fresh with all odds stacked against them (re: they have to succeed on good product).

I've long thought the best way to do the Legion might be to set a Superboy title and a Legion title on their own separate Earth, have them interact with each other but minimize their connection with the rest of DC!

Why not Fuzzy the Krypto-Mouse?

Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

Plus, lowered expectations by then should help. smile Not that your expectations could be any lower...

The trouble with everyone getting fired is that the ones who are fired may not be the most at fault. In so many cases editorial is messing things up with endless intrusive crossover events that aren't worthwhile and/or aren't taking enough of a guiding hand for writers who do need it.

There's so much old stuff to re-read, enjoy that.

Personally, I don't think Superboy is necessary for the Legion, and I'm happy with Kon-El keeping the name. And I grew up with the original.

I agree this would be the best way to go Eryk, I think the Legion connection to Kal-el is to important to be ignored, in my opinion Mon-el, Brainiac 5 and other characters work so much better with him than without.

I think they need to embrace the basic concept and history from the Silver and Bronze Age, build off of that foundation and bring in characters from later versions of Legion.

Add to the Legion Lore and quit scrapping everything just to start over again and again, is it impossible for a Writer do this while making it fresh and exciting?

That sounds good. But if it didn't happen this time, with Paul Levitz of all people, looks like the opportunity is lost.

You maybe right Shining Son, as Paul Levitz is at the top of the Legion Legend List, that said it seemed something was missing from his latest run? even when he used Kal it seemed forced or temporary, kind of like the later part of his 2nd run when Superman Editorial forced the Pocket Universe Superboy story on him and us.

Maybe the New 52 was in the back of his mind, perhaps it's me thinking the whole DCU is forced and temporary?

I still think a Legion with it's own Kal-el not subject to company wide crossovers and Temporary main Earth DCU continuity is the way to go though, whether it's Levitz or somebody else writing the books.

I rather liked "the Legion's own Kal-El" from the animated series, Kell-el.

I think having the forced and temporary preconceived notion in your mind would only color your perception of a few issues, after that if it's stuff you like you'll get over it. If it isn't, you'll just think that's why.

Not that it's wrong, but either way...

I just think The Legion deserves it's own Earths continuity much like the Earth Two book, they should have their pasts but not be hindered by it or the current DCU present. A Legion with it's own Kal-el, Kara, Dev-em, Laurel Kent, Insect Queen, etc..... Celebrate all the past and use it to build the Future, using characters from every version, An All-Star/Elseworlds Legion if you will.
