I can kill off Legion members ... give me a paycheck for writing that nass. Why don't they just have the HQ explode during a meeting ... and then Tarik the Mute cakkling in victory! 3 pages tops. Saves a lot of paper. Or Zymyr can teleport them into the sun. saves text because I don't think Zymyr can cackle. Sadly, I think I can also draw about as well as the pages in that preview. I usually think Kollins is pretty good.

Kollins art was actually the better of the two in this issue as unlikely as that sounds. There was a panel of Nura later on that I was only able to identify due to her mole.
I didn't dislike this issue but it is certainly a matter of diminishing returns as the issues come out. The main problem was there were something's that just made no sense like, as Dave says up a bit, when did Jacques teleportation powers return or how, if no technology is really working, how are the Legionnaires who rescued Mon able to breath or fly in space?

Continuing to read the title at this point is like the band continuing to play on the Titantic.

Wouldn't that imply that it at least makes people feel better, even if it doesn't really do any good?

Good point about the tech Stew. Add to that the obvious tech-based bindings they use on Mon-el wounds.
I'll chalk it up to a difference in Daxamite physiology, but losing your left arm and bleeding like Mon did, is pretty much a quick death.
I'm annoyed that we had a whole issue to focus on the Empress and there's NO information given on her. At all. Is she Sarya? Is she a new Empress? Does she know the Legionnaires? Who cares? just have her cackle evilly and go after anything that moves.

I'm surprised at the strength of people's negative reactions to this issue. I agree that it would be ridiculous if all the characters who apparently died in this storyline were really dead, but I think it's quite likely that some or even most of them are alive.

I agree; so far the only one we can say is dead for sure is Dirk.
I am not sure Lar is going to pull through but that is largely because you cannot have the Magic Wars II without him dying. But if he does make it this could be the thing that gets him and Shady back together. Which will make some people happy I suppose.

OK, at this point this whole story arc is getting so absurd that this is the only reaction I can have. Not really a spoiler, but possibly completely inappropriate. Mon-El, the new Arm-Fall-Off Boy. I think I'm done now.
Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

Okay, went to the comic shop and picked up this issue just to see the damage. I've never been Tinya's biggest fan...but this is TERRIBLE. Her characterization is probably the worst I've ever seen. First she's ranting on about how the little people aren't even a "civilization", next she's crying and wailing and talking all suicidal??! Tinya! YOU CAN PHASE THROUGH SOLID MATTER! Why, if she's so damn concerned, doesn't she run through the giant's hand to SEE IF THEY DIED?! What, did the Legionnaire get knocked right out of her?
MY GOD IS THE ART BAD. I mean, really bad. Look at the top of the page with all their shocked expressions! I am no artist and I think I could of drawn this!
And may I just say that all the girls are absolutely USELESS in this arc? So far they've done nothing but scream, cry, and fly around uselessly. I AM NOT IMPRESSED.
And who the hell IS the Emerald Empress, anyway? No backstory?! Is this the girl from the annual? What the hell is even going on?! She's not Violet, as we see her in the cruiser at one point (though she promptly vanishes after that).
Seriously, this doesn't even feel like a STORY. It's just a bunch of random scenes of violence thrown together with no rhyme or reason or forethought. We're three issues in and we STILL have no real idea of what the Fatal 5's goal really is. What, is it just WANTON DESTRUCTION?
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!
I've been a Legion fan a long time and I can say that it's never been this bad to me. NOT EVER.

Cover art that screams "buy something else" is not the path to sales recovery. Horrible art throughout. I don't know what medication Kolins and Johnson are taking but if that's what they think Legionnaires look like they need to cut the dose. More random violence taking the place of plot and the character assassination of Tinya continues. If you really want to depress yourself read Adventures 352 and 353 and compare. Great art, well formed characters, a fast paced story and a HEROIC death. Actually, don't do that. I just did and there's no reason for you to ruin your day too.
Whaddya mean I'm out of continuity?

This story is extremely annoying to me. For the past three issues, it's been the same thing - technology failure and Legionnaires getting beaten up by members of the Fatal Five. There's no movement on this plot - no hints as to Tharok's ultimate plan, no indications that I can see of the Legion discovering something new.
Also, why the heck isn't Mano back yet? All the other four, we've seen, is there some reason to hold out on member # 5?

Luckily she still has plenty of fingers left to cut off to show her devotion while he recuperates...

Why is the Empress wearing her hair that way? It looks like the green version of the afro wig that Jan wore to the school dance in the Brady Bunch Movie.
And apparently in the list of Lar's powers, they should say "sorta invulnerable"

She's obviously insane. Although she went from giant afro to just big hair by the end of the issue, so maybe it's a reaction to using the Eye. Remember after 9-11, a number of comic creators said it made them think twice about showing massive, senseless violence. I guess that memory has faded. I just don't see where they go from here. After the Magic Wars, things stayed messed up for quite a while. DnA's Robotika destruction was repaired in a few days by Robotika themselves. After Legion of 3 Worlds, all three Legions helped to clean up the mess. Who's going to fix this? The Promethean Giants? And is everyone, except Dirk, going to bounce out of the rubble, get their arms and legs repaired and carry on singing?

Here's a review of the issue to consider: http://scifipulse.net/2013/04/in-review-legion-of-super-heroes-19/So Levitz is giving Giffen credit for the deconstruction of the title. Yes, I think Giffen's finger prints are all over this storyline. Looking forward to see how Levitz finally wraps this all up. Mon-El's mortal wound was not a surprise. Levitz was attempting to take him out of the Legion the other year when he made him a Green Lantern but got vetoed by readers who voted him as Legion Leader. Will Mon-El become a Green Lantern again?

Ugh... can't bear to look at this "ride 'em" cowboy version of the Empress perched atop the Eye dressed like the guard to the Emerald City of Oz.

Not sure what to think about all this. The SciFiPulse review (link posted by Leather Wolf) in my mind was extremely generous. I would give the story, art, coloring all a "C" grade. As previously mentioned, the storyline was not really progressed at all, we don't really know much about this Fatal Five still (the Empress' background, where's Mano?), and Phantom Girl has not been done much justice. We have Polar Boy and Invisible Kid missing in action now as well as Star Boy, which may be interesting future subplots, but I was disappointed no panel time was really devoted to Thom or Dream Girl this issue in regard to his 'incident'. In fact, Lightning Lass, Violet, Dream Girl Cosmic Boy and Shadow Lass were all pretty much excess baggage this issue and no mention of Thom at all.
By the way, the defeat of Emerald Empress by Element Lad and Brainy was done EXACTLY in same fashion here as it was all the way back in LSH#231 Thirty-Five Years Ago!

Somewhere, Sarya is rolling over in her retconned grave. I just don't think that when I see the EE, I'm supposed to think "middle-aged frumpy hispanic housekeeper by day, Emerald Empress by night"
This storyline is turning into a train wreck. It strikes me that the purpose of the story is the dramatic changes instead of thre story itself. The changes are occuring clumsily and seemingly forced versus happening organically. It seems very obvious to me that tptb determined the changes they wanted to make and then devised a story line to have them occur in, insted of the other way around. There is no question the priority here.
Levitz, whome I have a great deal of respect for, seems to be phoning it in.

Has anyone else noticed that the reviewer confuses Mon-El with Lightning Lad? He gives an A+ to the story, but doesn't know which Legionnaire got fried, the main point of the story...
