I finally got my hands on the 7 issue set of Who's Who in the LSH that was published back in 1988. It's a nice reference for all things Legion. I wish Levitz and DC would have published a new version of this when the New 52 came out instead of Secret Origins. It might have helped newer readers get a better understanding of the Legion and 31st century. Both the main LSH title and Legion Lost could have utilized such a reference, especially since some Legion characters had been lost for years due to the reboots. Definitely a missed opportunitity there. Plus, it might have helped more established readers understand who and what was still in continuity after all the reboots.

One thing I didn't like about the 1988 version of Who's Who was that Supergirl was omitted. I guess they wrote her out after her death in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

You know, I've never seen this before. I know a lot of bits of continuity came from this, like Rainbow Girl finding a rich husband so she could be a trophy wife.

It's pretty much fundamentally important as far as introducing continuity. The real names/origins/current whereabouts of tons of characters were first revealed in this series.

I found it highly interesting - little tidbits like Spider-Girl getting her powers from Taltar, or Nightwind gaining hers from a recessive gene, really helped flesh out the Legion's universe.

I'd be curious to know exactly how it was written.

Some have speculated that a lot of it was based on PL's Legion notes, though stuff like the Spider Girl/Taltar connection sound a lot like something Waid would've come up with.

The Who's Who's series was genius. One thing I liked that hasn't quite been mentioned yet was the lead-in stories which were pretty much history lessons, blueprints, or encyclopedia entries on their own for non-people in the Legion universe. The little trivia about neglected characters was also a great resource.

I know Waid had a very heavy hand in the Who's Who series, even drawing Protys I and II for the hell of it, so I wouldn't be surprised that as editor he got to add a lot of these "where are they now" endcaps to articles.
