I still say he'll survive this. He'll probably need a containment suit or something. "Goodness Gracious, Great..."

Hmmm... perhaps his head somehow survived! But when it comes looking for his body...

geez!!!

I've never cared much for Dirk in the regularboot stuff.
His mental illness issue must have had a huge impact on how I've always felt about him, kind of creeped out.

I did like the way I thought he was being developed in the reboot, as a fire elemental like Firestorm, and I hope that if the New Wanderers is ever developed, that he, along with some others from that era, is one of the first ones found.

That being said, I liked TMK's 5YL and am looking forward to what Levitz does in the gap.
IF he does something good, that is.

Sorry to see Giffen go so soon.
I think.

He seems childish, to me.
Oh, well.

Ugh! Sun Boy's one and only panel in his own death issue is one of his decapitated corpse? And he doesn't even get a cover appearance? And THEN he gets eaten by those little alien fez-wearing shriners? So wrong on so many levels. But I suspect he'll be reincarnated as living fire or some such, similar to the way Dream Girl became a living dream, Apparition became an actual phantom, etc. etc.

Ok, I admit, I'd drifted away from the Legion over the last few months. Something else else about the stories just wasn't satisfying anymore.

But with Giffen onboard for the next few issues and the Fatal Five finally back, I decided to get this issue.

Beautiful, beautiful art. Best LSH issue I've read in quite some time. Shame Giffen isn't going to be around any longer but hopefully Levitz can maintain this dark momentum.

As for Dirk, quite shocking what happened to him but even dead and mostly eaten (Ugh!), with today's Comic Revolving Door of Death firmly in place, I'm hopeful he will return in some form.

IMHO, this was the worst Legion artwork since the last Giffen issue. Jacques especially looks stupid but the rest is awful.

I'm thinking as fertilizer. Ayla and Tinya are going to have a sunflower in the corner of the place he longed to be, their bedroom. They will name the plant, "Dirk."

It would be sort of creepy if his head were still alive due to some 31st century life support tech in the ship, and Tharok puts him into a robot body (controlled by Tharok, of course).

I dunno it looks to me like his head got the worst of it so not sure what would be left to reanimate.

I've posted most of my thoughts in the Yay or Nay thread but one thing that struck me since is just how few panels there were - there are three one page panels, a double page spread (5 out of 20 pages - a quarter of the comic on 4 pictures!) and a lot of three or four panel pages. It made me miss the nine panel grid.

I think that that's really my only complaint with this issue.

I think everyone is being a bit hasty about Dirk's actual demise.

1) Him lying in the pilot seat could be just a bout of space fatigue.

2) The funky indigenous could be just having a tailgate pork roast before the big game and were kind enough to neatly press Sun Boy's uniform.

BTW, the Persuader looked especially good, like some medieval knight before battle. I liked the issue, despite the choppy beginning.

KQ, love the space fatigue comment laugh

A couple of other things have struck me - how do Tinya's floating belt stud thingies float around her waist with no tech working? Also, I rather like Cham having rows of antennae along his skull.

Re Tinyas belt things

It is a little known fact (as I have just made it up) that the reason Bgtzl-ians can become intangible is because they have he mass of a small star.

So they aren't floating as much as being held in geosynchronous orbit around her waist.

It is also why she is with Jo as she is incredibly dense and he misunderstood.

^^ Brilliant! Tinya finally revealed! I knew we'd get a lot of fresh info on her when she was elected leader.

Isn't consuming an opponent to gain their attributes a practice of some ancient cultures? Could we possibly get a new Sun Boy in the version of one of those "sock puppet" critters? It would make Gates look like a white-bread.

Great Caesar's Palace! If it weren't for the rumored membership cut, I'd totally expect "Human-Eater Lad" to gain admittance!

The thing is, the little dudes can't have been there that long. Life clearly didn't evolve on that person-shaped rock, and there doesn't seem to be enough plant life to support any significant population (despite everyhing being made of wood and straw, we saw the entire 'planet' at the end, and there were no forests or grassy plains, which suggests that thier *spaceship* was made of wood and thatch and they tore it apart to build their village after crashing...), so, prior to Sun Boy's delicious and nutritious corpse landing on their table, they had nothing to eat but each other (once whatever rations their own ship carried were exhausted) for however long they've been stranded on the Promethean Giant.

All things considered, solar powers won't help them much. If they were hoping to absorb something from Sun Boy, it may have been the technical know-how to fix either his ship, or whatever remains of their own, and the piloting skill to get the heck off that rock!

Plus, Brek was, understandably, given recent events, imprecise. The little dudes may well be cannibals, but eating Dirk, strictly speaking, wasn't cannibalism. Cannibalism is eating your own species. These little dudes weren't human, so eating Diirk only counts as anthropophagy.

Given that the majority of the Legion are from other planets, and some clearly from species distinct from humanity (Hyrkraians, Durlans, Coluans), half the Legion could eat the other half and still not technically be cannibals. smile

But I probably shouldn't put that idea in Giffen's head...

I think that it's too coincidental that after he died and was eaten, the Giant then began to come alive. There's a master plan here...

Hmm... I wonder if the "Promethean Giants" could be connected to Stonehenge... and thus to Dreamy prophecy way back in #5...

"Didn't see the head" is basically a version of "didn't see the body". As readers of superhero comics, we should understand that "didn't see the body" in comics usually means he's not dead.

Paul tends to screw up that kind of thing, however. Colu was shown to have so few births that there's only one child. Given that plus the Coluan lifespan, one can calculate that if Coluans are reproducing at replacement rate, the population of Colu must be about 20 (maybe it was 40, I don't have the issue in front of me, but you get the idea.)

So Prometheus stole fire from the sun god to give to man. Maybe the Promethean giants are stealing Sun Boy's fire to give it back to the gods.
