LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #19Written by PAUL LEVITZ Art and fold-out cover by KEITH GIFFEN and SCOTT KOBLISH On sale APRIL 17 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T • The Legion of Super-Heroes is lost and hurtling into the sun—is it possible to save them all? First appearance of Emerald Empress in the New 52? Wonder if she'll have the "Eye" verbal tic like the last time Giffen did the LSH. Also, the fold-out cover bit is a thing that all the covers will have--I expect we'll see more of the new Fatal Five in other half of this cover. LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES VOL. 2: THE DOMINATORS TPWritten by PAUL LEVITZ Art by STEVE LIGHTLE, YILDIRAY CINAR, FRANCIS PORTELA, SCOTT KOLINS and others Cover by STEVE LIGHTLE On sale MAY 8 • 192 pg, FC, $16.99 US • One of the Legion’s oldest foes returns and plans to destroy the Legion of Super-Heroes from the inside out! The Dominators have kidnapped Braniac 5 and Dream Girl, and it’s up to Star Boy to rescue them! • Collects LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #8-14 and 0.

That's a lot of green hair! Nice cover. Never liked the "eye" thing.

Looking forward to this storyline. The Fatal Five is my favorite Legion nemesis. It should be a good read. The fold out cover will make it more collectible, a good marketing strategy.

*sniffle* I know it's sacrilege, but I just don't like Giffen's art! It makes me less excited for the story. Boo.

This retro-Kirby kick he's on isn't my favorite Legion art ever, but it's serviceable and it's head and shoulders above his earlier Legion work, so I'm relieved he's sticking with it.
I liked his GDS era stuff better, but this isn't terrible or anything.
It's a little ironic, perhaps, that he's Kirby-ing up the joint artistically decades after using Kirby characters like Darkseid in '82. It would have been *totally* appropriate to explore this style back then, and Jack would have still been around to see and maybe get a chuckle from the homage.

I'm afraid that I did enjoy the sentient Eye of Ekron. But, I'm not sure from the recent annual, that that's the way the current incarnation is going. The Eye was in the reboot, anyway, IIRC.
The Legionnaire is Lar, isn't it? Which makes sense since the Eye is magic based, or has been in the past, and historically, magic is one of Lar's few weaknesses.

Giff channelling Kirby is something that has been happening since his earliest work in the 1970s. He is simply returning to his roots.
Check out DEFENDERS # 50 and his CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN stint for early, major Kirby influence.

Sure looks like his current stuff to me. Good eye, Lash!
First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

I didn't much care for the Phantom Girl/Invisible Kid cover, but I like this one quite a bit!

Also prefer the GDS era art.
The solicit makes me hopeful we'll see the entire team in an epic story! The Fatal Five deserve no less!

Yeah, Giffen's GDS era artwork was my favourite too, even though what attracted me to Giffen in the first place was his Defenders work, so I'm happy with the Kirby vibe.

It also looks like we are headed for another round of costumes changes. I quite like Mon's new classic look.

The new Emerald Empress costume looks nice and functional, but I preferred her original more "regal" look myself.

With Giffen supposedly gone by this issue, I hope Portela starts on this issue so that we don't have to endure some third stringer fill in artist.
