LSH #4 Art News!

I hope I'm not stepping on your toes here Barry, but I've just seen Leonard Kirk make an announcement over on Geoff Johns' site that he'll be drawing the main story of issue #4, with someone else drawing the back-up story.

(For those who don't know him - Leonard Kirk was the JSA and Supergirl artist for quite a while. Am I right in thinking that he wrote that Wildfire story of the reboot too? Or was that someone else? I quite like his art style but am not sure if it will be suited to the Legion. Time will tell though.)

I didn't think we'd be getting a fill-in artist so soon. Hope everything's OK Barry. Can you possibly reveal who the back-up artist for the issue is? And who the story's going to be about! wink LOVE back-up stories!

Great news! Lonard Kirk is currently drawing the great "Bloodhound" serie and I must say he is easily one of my favorite penciller!

Wasn't it Leonard Kirk's inker on Supergirl, Keith Champagne?

And he did the recent Secret Files. This will be cool! I'm really interested in seeing other artists' interpretation of Barry's costume designs.

Here's a Legion-related page from Kirk's JSA.

"Colossal" Leanord Kirk fan here, so this is way kewl with me.

His work reminds me very much of the work of Stuart Immonen, another former fave LSH penciller of mine.

Barry's going to need help from time to time with 30 pages a month... I knew this was coming. MY fear about it was the fill-in artists would be less-talented beginners. This news lays that fear to rest.

His inker on Supergirl was Robin Riggs. Keith C was his inker on JSA (including the page NC posted).

And yes, Keith wrote Legion 34.

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Leonard is a damn fine artist. And if an occasional backup is needed, okay, he will more than do handily.

Damn, that pic made me think of one more thing I'll miss about the reboot era. I won't get to see the rebooted Blok! frown

Cool news! Love what Leonard Kirk does and I was sorry when he was booted out of JSA :-(

I've missed my regular fix of his art (I don't care much for Bloodhound, so I don't buy it)

Also a big Kirk fan! His Legion Secret Files is my favorite work by him! Not sure who inked him there but his work looked great. Very excited about Kirk. Good choice also his style isn't all that different from Kitson's IMO. To the comic book vet it may be to some kid who reads the story he may not even notice much of a difference (cmon like we ever looked at credits when we were 10 years old) wink

woo-hoo! Kirk is one of my all time favourite comic artists. Also, from my few encounters with him on the web, a genuinly nice guy as well.

Also, as a fill in artist for Barry (if and when the need arises) I think he works very well. Not exactly the same style, but similar. Quite simple while still being realistic and with a real feel for facial expressions. I think their styles are similar enough not to jar against each other, but different enough to be unique at the same time.

Yeah, I hadn't seen this panel before. I love his interpretation of Blok. Makes me sad that we never saw him once in the ten years of the reboot.

I love the characterization inherent in this panel too. Most of the characters are in traditional flying poses. Except Brainy. You still get the sense that he's flying along with them, but he's way too intent on his datapad to join the others in the apparent joy of flight. How totally Brainy.

The fourth issue is a bit soon for a fill-in artist. It is becoming more and more the norm. I remember the last Titans series having a fill-in artist in the 3rd ISSUE! I have seen Leonard Kirk do some rather unimpressive work (Supergirl) and some surprisingly strong run (JSA). I will reserve judgement until I see the issue.

I do think that Kirk is a curious fill-in choice when comparing him to Kitson. There styles are in such opposition of each other.

We'll see

That is from JSA # 51. The major baddy of the storyline "Princes of Darkness" is a major Legion Baddy (which is why there is a Legion full page in it). You can collect the entire storyline in trade Paperback
