I try not to share all of the comics-related amusement generated by my 4-year old. For example, he's begun to get into the Legion, and wants to be Cosmic Boy. I've refrained from seeking advice on this Board. I haven't yet had the heart to tell him that makes him the Legion's biggest dick. I just keep saying "sweetheart, you look a lot more like Lightning Lad or Sun Boy than you do Cosmic Boy."
But some things are too good not to share. Son was VERY cranky this morning. We all had a busy, fun-filled weekend, and that means parents pay on Monday morning. Mom wanted him to do something, Son called her BAAD names (I swear to God, he didn't hear it from me!). So, Mom took away his JL Dakseid figure, the almost impossible-to-find one that Grandma brilliantly picked up at a Dollar Store last week.
Well, Son went ape-shit, screaming "I WANT DARKSEID! I WANT DARKSEID!" At the time, I didn't know the back story--I came in at "I WANT DARKSEID!" For a split second, I imagined a Boom Tube materializing right there, over the kitchen table. Darkseid steps out, says "I have come for you, My Son, of whom I am most proud." Darkseid then Omega Beams me and Mom on the spot, pulls Son up into the Boom Tube. At the last moment, Darkseid pauses, turns around, says "I will take the dog as well. His excrement will befoul New Genesis so I don't have to." Dog yelps excitedly and the whole infernal crowd vanishes from this mortal coil.
I may start calling son "Kalibak" to see if it irks him!
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

Cute.
I would say there are worse Legionnaires to want to be than Cosmic Boy. Maybe your son just wants the bustierre?

Great story! Whenever I hear about young kids enjoying comic book characters, it makes me smile about when I was a pre-teen fully immersed in my Dad's comic book collection. Tell Kalibak to continue demanding for one of Kirby's greatest!

You'll know you're in trouble when he starts screaming for Lobo.

FC, I never thought of that...
Note to Future Self: Must make sure Son NEVER gets Lobo action figure...
Quis, he's in love with Cosmic Boy's original space suit/helmet costume--we've been reading reprints of Adventure 247 and other early stories. Plus, he knows Cos is in charge, and that fit's with Son's view of the dynamic in our family (he's probably right).

My son has always liked the helmut or mask wearing charcters. I guess it's a kid thing.

What's Son going to do when he reads later stories, when Cos stops wearing the helmet or when Saturn Girl is in charge?
Better make sure Darkseid is plenty handy.

DC,
I TOTALLY understand. Kael, our 3 year-old has two loves....his GI Joe's and his JLU figures. It seems like the more obscure the better, (Rocket Red?) Darkseid is one of his faves too.
Have you guys been picking up the animated series seasons yet? Wait till he starts calling your wife a 'Poozer'.....
The guys at the LCS loves when he comes in because he knows more characters than some of the guys that have worked there over the years.
I'd have to draw the line at Lobo but I have to say the kids all liked his S:TAS and JL appearances, which just scares me to death.
Jamie Cali would also be glad to know he's a Kyle Rayner fan...
