A major point that I didn't find answered in the Rules section. And if there's a FAQ about this board, I can't seem to find it...
I've seen that there are a fair number of posters who are RPing as their characters on here, in addition to their regular posting. How do you "go IC" on here?
Are there threads for the new recruits, or are you invited by someone already in play to join them in a plotline? Just wondering; it looks rather busy with this Invasion, and I'm not sure if you have the time ICly to deal with adding characters to an already-volatile mix?
Thanks in advance for any information or clarification.

No rules with regards to the roleplaying really, other than to try and keep it within the threads that are identified as being role playing ones. If you want to join in jump right in. Generally the posters who instigated the story have a vague plot line worked out in private (but not always) but the fun of the role playing on these boards (and the same applies to the tag team threads in Bits as well) is that anyone can join in any way that they want to. Some posters never get involved in the role playing, some only occassionaly do, but you don't have to ask anyone before getting involved if you want to. Some of the best plot points and twists and situations have come from people just posting what they want to.
I guess the only rule (apart from the one about keeping it to identified threads) is to have fun. Jump right in and see where it takes you...

Probably the only rules you need to be concerned with are to never kill or seriously injury/abuse another poster's character without having discussed the scenario with them. Also, the roleplaying is pretty much restricted to Mission Monitor Board threads.

Please do, Seth! The story's not all that convoluted:
--two Legion Worlders (Lard Lad and Cobalt Kid)are wanted for murder by a galactic power called "The Dark Oval".
--the D.O. have sent ambassadors demanding the fugitives be turned over.
--Legion World has thus far refused the request because doing so would doom the two to execution without fair trial.
--in the midst of heated talks, Lard Lad's home/business has been mysteriously destroyed, killing hundreds.
--Lard Lad is trying to discover what or who caused the explosion.
--diplomacy continues, but things seem ever closer to war.
There's a lot more to it, but that's the essential story. For reference, Legion World is an independent, artificial planet dedicated to freedom and openness. The LMBP or LMB (Legion of Message Board Posters) is a team of superheroes that makes its home on Legion World and is a force for justice in the galaxy. The LMB is very much ingrained in the society and structure of Legion World, not just tenants of it.
Hope that helps, Seth! Trust me, we're very open to people just dropping right in!
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Seth, Cobalt Kid has a comprehensive history of both the message board posters and their characters in his Written History of the LMB thread in the Encyclopedia galactica. Its not necessary to read it to jump in (I know i jumped right in last year and had a blast) but sometimes there's references from their continuity and its helpful to look at the summary. After a big intro last year, my character's role this year is seems more or less limited to war profiteering and making snarky comments. Although I know you guys want me to zap the Evil Ranger into a plate of inedible English cuisine.

Thank you all for your help in this! Unlike my usual PBeM mode (which is to read the archived posts before setting up a character), I'm just jumping in. It would fit Seth's IC confusion.

Gods, don't bother trying to work out too closely all the characters. While there's a little summary of most characters in the 'who's who' thread things change constantly. And when some of us have been playing at it for six years or something now and can't keep our own characters consistent (I've been evil so many times in the future and the present that I have no idea whether I'm now a reformed villain, an anti-hero or a hero who has had lapses) so don't worry overly about getting something wrong. That's often where some of the best stories have come from and even if it doesn't work it'll get retconned or sorted in story somehow. The LMBP Universe has been blown up and recreated mid-story so many times that I doubt even Cobie has a clue how many times it's happened now.

Seth,
I think one of the main things is to not to try to purposely make things difficult for the other players.

Bevis... I believe what he means is not to be a twink, as they're usually called. Tag-teaming someone is one thing; saying that your character can fight Karate Kid and whip him without getting a scratch is a twink. (And yes, I include the possibility of that character being a Daxamite or the like, as Val's been shown to affect them).

Aww, but that's half the fun. Actually, I'm only half joking here. There is a long tradition here of throwing in a complete curveball if a thread or a story dries up a bit. If you look back at some of the Tag Teams in the Bits forum you'll see what i mean. Planets exploding, the power to pull objects from arses, people being turned into funny animals, other characters going suddenly and inexplicably evil, that type of stuff. The trick is to throw in something that is completely out of left field and random and bizarre but also make it so that either it's vague enough that people can run with it and make it what they want ( ... suddenly Dolly Parton appeared and said...) or make it so that it's relativly easy to undo it if needs be.
The role playing and the Tag Teams here are a littler... looser, say, than they are on a lot of other boards.

So think of this like the Subreality Cafe, and I should be able to manage?

Bevis,
I would say that the curveball is more appropriate for the tag-team than the role-playing that someone has sketched out. That is not to say that you could do something in a role-pplay that changes things. I just don't think a curveball is appropriate in the role-play. my two cents.

I have no idea what the Subreality Cafe is, but it sounds like the kind of thing that sounds like it'd be like the LMBP, so yes.
Probably.

The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."
