Hi. Thought I'd introduce myself since I registered a coupla days ago. My name is Dionisios or Dion (my nickname Dain is based on my real name) and I live in Athens, Greece. I teach English and Italian for a living, and have been an avid Legion fan since...well..since forever actually. My earliest memories with the Legion go back to 1968 or thereabouts when at the age of 6, I read Greek editions of Legion stories and later played them out with friends (I usually played Bouncing Boy because I was somewhat overweight even then, and it was Chuck or Saturn Girl. Even though I loved Imra, to play a girl legionnaire, a girl character, period, was a fate worse than death at that age). A few years later, when I could speak and read some English, I discovered the American editions. My first Legion issue in English was SLSH #209. What an experience that was! My legionnaires were older, sexier, gorgeous, super-futuristic, and there were more of them than I ever thought. I was hooked! The Legion has become an important part of my fantasy life (my life, actually) and even though I sometimes gripe and whine about this or that in the newer incarnations of the magazine,sometimes I almost hate it, I still buy it, still read it, and will never stop loving it. Does this make sense? I think it does. At least, for hardcore Legion fans, it does!  I also enjoy sketching and painting and had posted some of my work in the old LSH-pics newsgroup a few years ago. I was glad to see that Sketchlad, Dean, is also active here as well as some other people I rememeber from the newsgroup. I'll post some of my sketches etc here, when I figure out what goes where. Recently, I finished my first sci-fi novel, that will probably remain unpublished but it's ok. I had no idea this forum existed since I haven't been very active fandom wise (except for a brief stint in APA-LSH many years ago and the lsh-pics newsgroup). It's really an incredible place. I don't know who made this forum but, what can I say? I'm really amazed! I've already spent days reading posts and admiring the artwork of all the talented people here. Hmm, I don't know what else to say...oh, right! My fave Legionnaires are Dream Girl, Shadow Lass and Element Lad. Other fave Legion characters are Infectious Lass, Rond Vidar and the White Witch, and my fave Legion period was the Cockrum/Grell time since that was my "first love", so to speak. So, anyway, I'm glad to be here and a big "YASSOU" (hi in Greek) to everyone in Legionworld.

Hi, Dain, welcome to Legion World from the other side of the world (it's raining, again, in Vancouver...)
I already have a question for you :-)
Do Greek editions of the Legion translate Legionnaire's names? At one point we had a thread with translations of Legionnaire's names in different languages (I remember seeing French, Spanish and even Finnish versions), and it was quite funny. Some of these names have proven to be quite popular (Devorador, Spanish for Matter-Eater Lad pops up frequently, I also like Solar (Sun Boy) and Sombra (Shadow Lass)). But we never had Greek. Given the etymological connections between Greek and English I think that some of these could be quite interesting...
(what a welcome, you sign up to the site and two minutes later you already have 'homework'. I hope you don't mind...)
And before I forget, yassou to you, too. I hope you enjoy it around here.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. I'm more than sure I'll enjoy being here quite a lot. Quislet, I"m not much of a limerick person, but if inspiration strikes I'll post one. Debutante, Drura is incredible!!!! Thanks for posting Sketchlad's painting. Drura is one of the more exotic and surreal persons in the Legion universe. How I'd love to see her again! Doctor One, yes they did translate the Legionnaires' names in Greek (not always accurately, though). If the thread with the foreign translations is still active I'd love to add the Greek names. How could I ever forget them? It's really no "homework" at all, It'll be my pleasure.

Umm, I guess I'm bringing this topic back again since most people don't know me (how could they? I only made 12 posts last year. I mean, there are people here with over 10000 posts!!) There was no need for a new introduction. Not much has changed since last year, except I work in the afternoons again (thank God!) which gives me the time to stay up late on the Net. I'm a night person anyway

Yeah, I must have missed this the first time around. You DID register a year ago. Don't worry about catching up or anything though, things can move pretty fast around here sometimes. Always a new book, nowadays a new 'toon and then there are always new comments, new posts to answer and lately lots 'n' lots of new art somewhere ...and it's easy to make friends here.
