Although some people expressed dissapointment with the coloring for issue #1, I didn't mind it at all. In fact, I enjoyed it.
Now for my Throughts on the Coloring: One of the things that impressed me about #1 was the way some of the characters' logos seemed to light up on the page, almost glowing. This was most likely due to the subtle blending of the colors, increasing in heat to a final white (i.e. Sunboy's logo). If the colors had been brighter, I don't think I would have noticed the logos nearly as much because there would not have been as much contrast. I really liked this effect and hope it continues.
Also, a good chunk of the pages deal with the fight on Lallor, which appears to be night time. In that sequence, muted colors felt appropriate due to the night time and the fighting.
Cosmic boy's sequence delt with some holographic heads. Now, we all know what a pain it is to make out details on holographic images from watching umpteen billion Star Wars movies. I'd imagine that it would be even harder to pull the visual effect off in a normal colored room. You need the darker contrast to make the images easier to distinguish.
Finally, the ending sequence on top of the clubhouse was drawn in the context of an evening, right before sundown, where the red band of the visual spectrum typically shows much more than other colors. Again, Starboy's costume effect has a living feel to it due to the white haze applied.
Anyways, those are my observations on the coloring.

SK,
I am in the minority too that liked the coloring, or at least was intrigued by it.
It's clear that 31st century earth is intended to be a dull, safe place, so it's dominant color scheme is grey with a touch of beige. I agree that the coloring of the hologram, Lallor and conlusion scenes was appropriately atmospheric. I am a little concerned that this washed-out color scheme applies to some, but not all, Legionnaires. Colossal Boy and Shadow Lass seem to have a dull color palette applied to them, in contrast to Sun Boy and Star Boy. I wonder if the coloring approach is part of the overall artistic push to lend a sense of realism to the new Legion? The characters are drawn in a distinctive and realistic way -- distinctive hair and faces, in particular. A duller, more real-world color scheme would be consistent. The Legion was always (even recently) one of the more saturated, primary-color style books, so the new color scheme is a jarring change. Plus, if the purpose of the Legion is to be colorfully non-conformist, wouldn't they look a little less bland?
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

Then there were three... I like the coloring, too. There were a couple minor errors on costume details, but though that disappoints me, I'm actually used to it happening. Overall, I liked the mood the colors established.

I though the colouring enhanced the mood of the different vistas. And the contrasting panels when the SP dudes were discussing the Legion intercut with the Legion in action, worked well. The scenes on Lallor are probably my favourites. Strongly atmospheric.
Can't wait for more.
