Yes, I guess so...well, those three blasts combined with my unique genetic make up anyway. Remember, I'm partly from Earth and partly from the Variable Realm. And the rules are very different in the Realm, or so Vee has explained. Don't forget, I've never been there.

"Guys? I'm pretty sure I know where we are. After all, I've been here before and it makes a great deal of sense," Cobie insists. "But what is that? It wasn't here last time."

*They all turn to look where Cobie is pointing and they see a very bright but tiny flickering light about 50 paces to the rear of where they are standing.*

Oh my god! That's it! We found it! Guys, that's the entrance portal to the Variable Realm! Come on, we have to hurry and get through before it shifts someplace else again!

"How appropriate," Cobie says as he hangs his head for a moment and a single tear forms in his eye. "I should have guessed that it would be here."


Where Cobalt? Where are we? I do not know this place. How could such a desolate corner of the universe be of any import? There is nothing here but this asteroid on which we stand and that odd double star in the heavens. There is nothing else near here, not for thousands and thousands of light years hence.

Rex, you wouldn't know...but this place was very important to Vee, Sarya, Ranger, myself and a bunch of others.

This is Star 69. And yes...we should have known. It houses the entrace to the Variable Realm.

Let us at last enter it and reclaim Vee. And then it's on to Legion World and the final battle!

So...this is the famed Variable Realm. Everything seems so odd here. I feel as if I'm in constant flux.

I thought you knew. It's the nature of the Variable Realm...everything is in flux here. The longer you are here, the more likely that you will be changed. You eventually change so much that you lose your sense of identity and become part of the essence of the realm. It takes a great deal of power and self countrol to resist the changes...but no one not even Vee is powerful enough to resist them forever. He took a great risk in coming here and that risk grows by the second.

It may already be too late...

Then we must make haste! There is the path we must follow as marked by the Eye. Onward, and pray that it leads us to the noble Varalent in time!

I'm ...okay. It's just that the Realm is beginning to affect me as it does anything from here. Vee is the only one who has ever mastered it and escaped from here. I don't know how he managed it. It's taking everything I have...everything I am to hold it together. I don't think I could survive intact here for more than a day and even that might be too long.

One second. You said Varalent is the only being ever to have mastered this realm and managed to escape. Yet, you are from here as well...or partly so, if I understood you correctly. How can that be? Would not one of your parents have to have escaped from here as well?

Cobie, to answer your question, I do not know if I can ever make it back to Legion World. I have been here for so long, it may no longer be possible. There is but one chance and that is the role that you were all meant to play.
