Strange as it is, I have never done anything but throw away old comics. This made sense when I was a kid and the comic was shredded, or when I had a recent very bad issue. But now, I need to seriously winnow my collection of stuff from the past 20 years. You all have any suggestions on good ways to do this? Sell? Donate? Burn?

There's a thread somewhere about donating comics to Africa.

Also, donating comics to a local library or hospital might be a possible scenario (I got that idea from Lightning Lad).

Definately DON'T burn them. # shudder #

eBay is a good option because those local comic dealers are SHARKS. (hey Shark Lad)

If you want to "do an Earl" and go the Karma route then EDEs suggestion was good or you could donate them to a local primary school - or whatever the American version of that is.

It would encourage them to read and you might even inspire a life long love of comics in a few kids, which could, eventually lead them here.

Depending on the comics and how many of them there are, donation might be your best bet. If you're unloading a whole bunch at once, especially, there are tax benefits, though there are some hoops you have to jump through. (The government's all about hoops.)

I recently donated 11 long boxes to Michigan State University's library (the largest publicly accessible collection in the world, they claim), and if you want to hear more about the process, send me a PM.

I looked into the eBay route and found that most of the stuff I wanted to drop (late 70s-late 90s) wasn't selling at all or was selling for pennies on the cover price. It just wasn't worth the time and trouble to set up that many auctions. I did eBay a couple things that I knew would make some money (my "Sandman" run, for example), but didn't bother with most.

Before I donated, though, I did sell several items to a few Legion Worlders.

Thanks for the generous advice. I too was skeptical that eBay selling would be worth the effort.

SS, I will send you a message about Michigan State. That is a cool idea!

FYI, one of the things I want to unload is a virtually complete collection of Grell's "Green Arrow" run, if anyone is interested.

Every once in a while, I'll go through the comics I've picked up that I don't collect, box them up and send them to the local children's hospital. Makes me feel good knowing that some youngster that is in pain or suffering through an illness will have something to take his/her mind off of their pain for a little while.

BTW, if you do this be sure to "censor" your package.
