Just thought I would let you guys know I may not be around for a while. Unfortunately my mum had a fairly major stroke on Monday night. She is paralysed down her right hand side and we are waiting for results from a battery of hospital tests. Now as she was the sole carer for my dad who is wheelchair bound after suffering his own stroke years ago, I have had to spend the last few days getting him sorted out. I’m an only child so I am running around a little bit trying to get everything sorted and that is going to eat into any spare time I had for hanging around on the boards. I will try to keep up though because this place is like a second home to me.

I hope she recovers fully! If you can, please try and stop by now and then and let us know about her progress. And remember, if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask! We're all friends here and we're there for you. Even if it's just to talk about what's happening.

It's times like this I wish we were all closer. Who put this bloody pond between us, anyway?! I really hope your Mom gets through this okay. And don't forget to take care of yourSELF while caring for the 'rents, okay? Trans-Atlantic ((((((HugS))))), buddy. Update us when you can.

Faraway lad, my dad had a stroke a few years ago. Tough times it's true. I hope tha things go better for you and like the man said, anything we can do.

On the list of life-hurting illnesses that kick you and all your family members in the ass, stroke is pretty dang high on the list. I'm extremely sorry to hear about this. I hope you get the chance to pop in here from time to time, at least to blow off steam and relax. Your parents certainly come first, though. Take good care of them! We'll be thinking and praying for you over here.

Many thanks for the kind words, as I said there are a lot of you out there in cyber space who, although I have never actually met you face to face I feel honoured and lucky enough to call my friends.

As you might imagine I am struggling a bit trying to juggle work and visiting both parents so am finding time on the net has shrunk to almost nothing. I hope you understand that is the reason for me not replying earlier.

Mum is making slow and limited progress, she is still without the use of her arm and finds talking a bit difficult but has been able to stand for the first time yesterday and with a lot of help form the nurses has been able to walk a few steps. It is still a long road before she will even be considered for release from hospital but it’s a start.

My Dad has now settled into his normal routine in the respite care home he is used to and is as well as can be expected.

Anyway, this is just a quick line typed in a hurry from work to keep in touch.

Good to hear from you Darden. It sounds as if your mum is on the road to some recovery and your dad is settling in okay. That must be some relief - but still a very trying and hectic time for you. Be sure to take care of yourself!
