I'm taking on the daunting task of re-reading all of my Legion comics. So I started this last night and the second or third book was Suberboy feat. LSH Issue 215... I think (it was late and I was sleepy).

In the second story some Legionnaries were in trouble and Light Lass was trying to get Cosmic Boy (and his huge sideburns) to help save them. He couldn't because it was a traditional day for his people and he wouldn't use his powers.

After pressing him on this, Cosmic Boy just straight-up slapped the hell out of her. I had not remembered that. It was just... odd...and funny...in a weird, uncomfortable kind of way.

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times 'round here, but any other shocking moments that stand out to you guys?

Hey Daryl,

Many people here like to bring up that very incident.

I would say another shocking moment (although not a sudden shock) would be when Projectra executed Nemesis Kid personally.

Well I have to admit Rokk slapping Ayla as pretty shocking!

Don't know if I can top that but I have a few shocks...

1. Violet being kidnapped and replaced by Yera.
2. Rond Vidar being a GL
3. Invisible Boy punching Ultra Boy I just read recently and was shocked. I thought Jo was going to hammer him but he let it slide. smile

The death of Supergirl. First time I cried for a comic character.

Also, when Brainy kissed Lyle. I had to rub my eyes and stare awhile before I could believe what I was seeing.

I just finished re-reading S/LSH #221 where Ayla takes it on the chin again. This time she is out and out punched by Timber Wolf, who is under Charma's influence. Did Shooter have some hidden aggressions he was taking out on the poor girl?

Yeah, just read that story in the Archive I got for my birthday (finally have all 12 yay!!!). Think Jim had his feelings shunned because he couldn't get the hair style just right, and yes Timber Wolf had it first. Take that Logan, weapon X or whateverine!!!!

TMK Annual #1 and the how a spotlight on Jo weaved throughout Legion history in a way that we never had been able to see before. I definately had a WFT moment that lasted all issue!

How about, after the Yera thing was exposed, Shrinking Violet, no longer living up to her name, up and slugs Duplicate Boy (not that the weiner didn't deserve it) and he of course does nothing. I guess I didn't realize at the point that he must have known that Yera was not really Violet. Really, Duplicate Boy was such a weiner. Shrinking Violet getting...friendly with Ayla after that qualified as shocking at the time as well.

I guess that the love affair that never was, between Timber Wolf and Saturn Girl, on that asteroid, was a bit surprising. That seems like a very odd couple to me.

I was caught off guard when Time Trapper appeared in (and on the cover) of Super
Friends. The story even maintained established Legion continuity.

Yes, in Super Friends #18, March 1979. The cover caption reads something like "It's the Time Trapper's deadliest trap and it has been sprung for the Super Freinds". On the cover he is shining some kind of flashlight into the eyes of the Super Freinds who are all sitting in a row. He has long finger nails. It was during the time when TT was expained to be a renegade Controller, which is how the story uses him.

As I recall, he appears later on in the same series in which he gets taken down by the Wonder Twins and Gleek. laugh

The death/suicide of the emerald empress in v3.

Actually, lots of shocking stuff in that brief storyline, the "death" of Quislet, the brutal fight between Jacques and the empress, Element Lad gets angry...

I think Giffen must have had lots of influence at this point in the series.
