Today is a good day for me because...

I got a new job!!!!

I'm gettin' out of the crappy law firm life and goin' in-house to be general counsel for a company that I've represented for two and a half years now. The company buys animal hospitals across the United States and is full of kewl people. I can wear shorts and take my dog to work with me. And I will no longer have to account for my time in 6 minute increments, be required to cancel plans at the last minute to stay late for a partner and just generally be subject to crappy law firm-isms.

Jeez, I'm so excited...

Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!

Rokk, as a fellow attorney, I know the dream and I'm very happy for you. I hope it's everything you want and as challenging as you want.

I remember when I quit my first job after law school (Heller Ehrman, a large firm by any standards) I felt so relieved. I couldn't ever picture myself spending the rest of my life as a partner with people I couldn't stand to be around.

Plus, taking your dog to work is great. I did it for while. What kind of dog?

Best of luck and congratulations. InvisibleKid

Yeh, sounds a cozy job now. Wait until my Fidoburg's lawsuit comes to your desk for that unfortunate slip during the circumcision.

Oh and, Congrats!

Rokky, that's AWESOME. I hope it stays golden for you, it sounds like you're getting away from working for "the man..." a laudable intention in ANYBODY's book! Follow your dreams, man!

Congrats! I'm always glad to hear of things going RIGHT in my friends' lives!

Congratulations, rokk. I know it's hard to take that leap sometimes. But sometimes the risk is worth it.

Rokk that is great news! I know how it feels to get a job you prefer over what you've been doing. I hope it continues to go well and your dog likes the place.

Great news, Rokk S. It sounds like a much more congenial atmosphere. Does everyone bring their dog to work? That could get to be pretty lively! Fly-ball in the corridors?

Congrats! I don't know how anyone works at a big law firm for too long. I had a friend that interned at one of Atlanta's most prestigious firms and she hated every minute of it.

As it happens, I found out today that I'm being transferred across town to "the corporate office." Apparently my job had been filled by a woman who got called up in the reserves before she started so she's back out now (good for her) and getting my job, no great loss for me since it's not that engrossing. They made a slot for me at the corporate office in the same department but it'll be more fun it think. And I'll be working in a busy office, not a tidepool of boredom like my current locale. At least I can take it as something of a compliment that they didn't just give me the pink slip!

Sometimes you get a break without looking for one.

Congratulations, Matlock! I hope you enjoy your new job at the new locale!

I am literally overwhelmed by the well-wishing on this thread here. Thanks, guys, for being so generous. This is such a great group!

To answer a coupla questions:

I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who celebrates his 13th birthday TODAY and is named Zotley. He has a degenerative disease and can't use his hind legs (he's not in any pain or anything), so he has a wheelchair, and he remains very happy and active.

The firm I worked at (hee hee: past tense: I still have 2 weeks left, tho) is Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Worldwide they have roughly 1000 attorneys. I would not recommend it. A law firm this huge has layers of bureaucracy which I find very difficult to wade through.

Thanks again for the well-wishing, guys and gals. You're the best.
