Tom De Falco's writing causes me physical pain.

I'm sure he's a lovely person and if he were actually a contemporary of Roy Thomas/Stan Lee/etc, I could probably justify it as him being a product of his time, but his expository and stilted dialogue just gives me an aneurysm every time I read it.

"I am the Native American character! Let me throw in a random objection about exploiting the noble primitives! Also, we all remember that Tellus has telepathic abilities, right?"

"I am level-headed and will remind us all that we are part of the Legion of Superheroes! We came here to stop a terrorist from our time, which is the 31st century, and yet we failed to stop him and now we must track him down! I believe the plot requires us to be in New York soon!"

Ugh. Sorry to anyone who likes him, but I just cannot deal.

IMO, the art--especially on page 3--shows great promise. And its nice to see the full team back together in one place, too, having a moment of peace for a change.

I like her much better here, looking close to her depiction by Giffen. cool

Yeah, I remember coming to that conclusion once and for all during his post-Clone Saga Amazing Spider-Man run.

I've never read not one singular comic book written by this DeFalco fella.
He seems to elicit strong responses both pro & con.

I didn't think this issue was too bad. It won't go down as a classic, but I did like some of the little touches, like the fact that Tellus's mental environment was an ocean, and Timber Wolf's dismissal of the thug's attempts at friendship.

The exposition was way too much, but hopefully we'll see less of it as time goes on. And Gates's lines were awful. But I was certainly prepared for much worse from DeFalco, and this issue didn't live down to my worst expectations.

Well, that's high praise, I must say.
sigh

Umm, I haven't gotten the issue yet, but I agree, in theory, with gone about the Timber Wolf portrayal.
The only thing that we might be able to chalk it up to is time lag or maybe, hypertaxia grumpiness and moral confusion.
Maybe.

Well, I didn't cancel this title from my pull order in time, so I was obligated to buy it one last time today, unfortunately. What utter drek. I don't mind an expository issue now and then as long as the exposition has merit. This issue has none imho. Save yourself the 3 bucks, Shady.

I'm getting a 'so bad it might be fun to make fun of' vibe from you guys... so I guess I'll give it a whirl.

I was not planning to buy this issue. I looked at it in the store and saw nothing that made me want to change my mind.

A pretty underwhelming issue. The personalities of the Legionnaires still seem off. I don't like the visuals for Gates at all. The only thing I found interesting was revelation that Tellus is carrying a secret. Now, how long will it take for us to find out what the secret is?

I'm not ready to drop Legion Lost, but I'm not seeing anything that makes me want to ramp up for the crossover event...

Did anybody else think Gates was talking like a pirate?

I've liked Legion Lost so far, but to borrow Jerry's word, this issue was truly underwhelming. It was like watching a favorite TV show in which you've come to know the characters but they suddenly changed all the actors. They just look and sound different...and not in a good way.

As for the story, I kept thinking that it had potential to be really sharp, but they didn't pull it off.

I was thinking of a third-rate mobster. And now he's gone into a cocoon? Either they don't want to use him in the story for a while (again) or he's going to emerge as something new.

I think that Gates might adopt a corney accent if he thought it would somehow help him fit into the anti-hero vib of the era.

I don't know if that's why he's talking the way he is, though.
It might just be the writer's 'thing', sort of like Levitz giving Brande the Norwegian Chef's accent.

And I haven't gotten this issue yet, sorry jim, but the book has Gates AND Tellus: I HAVE to buy it.
sigh

What was I trying to say?
Oh, Tracker, does Gates actually cocoon?!
He took my admonition!
lol
(Yes, yes, I know I had nothing to do with it.)

But, I can hardly wait to see if he turns into something different!
By that I mean a different bug type, not a raptor or a humanoid or some other totally off the wall thingy.
But, is this development caused by the virus or is it to heal his injuries (rather then just a way to write him out for another length of time)?
confused

And hasn't Tellus already mentioned that the Earthers have to have experienced the virus in order to become what they will become in the 31st century?
