Everytime I think about the debut of the Teen Titans cartoon this weekend, I can't help but think about what might have been.

As I understand it, a group of teens come together in the near future to do superhero stuff.

Sounds almost like the perfect set up for our Legion. I'm going to watch it, but I already feel let down by TPTB.

The promotions for it aren't helping my judgements of the show either. It looks a little to Animesque for my tastes. I also have the feeling that it is being targetted more towards the younger viewer.

Are you guys/gals going to watch it? What are your thoughts?

I don't get the Cartoon Network but I understand they'll be re-broadcasting them on Fox. Either way, I'm avoiding it like the plague. The animation, from what I seen, is no where near my taste. Like you stated, to Anime looking. Plus I've read (Entertainment Weekly I think) that it is geared towards kids and that does not interest me.

I'll stick with Striperella and Ren and Stimpy's Adult Party Cartoons for now.

The "Justice League" animation is stylized, but not anime-style, and it's a lot easier to take than the previews I've seen of "Teen Titans."

"JL" is also pitched in its writing toward an older audience, though it's still accessible to kids and adolescents. That makes it far more interesting.

That "JL" has a winged woman in it has, o'course, absolutely nothing to do with it {grin} ... ahh, maybe my "bias" (per Minesurfer) is showing, say what?

I like the JLA cartoon a lot, though I don't watch it regularly.

I saw a Titans commercial. The tag line was something about fighting for truth, justice and the last pizza. Ugh.

For this reason, among others, I hope cartoon makers stay far away from the Legion. I just don't have any faith that the Legion wouldn't be dumbed down for the masses.

Did you all see the Legion cartoon concept art that Steve Lightle has posted in the past? I'm sort of glad that the series didn't come to fruition. It looked like as much aimed towards the kiddies as Teen Titans. If memory serves, it was something of a pokemonesque version of the Legion, in the art Steve has shown Lightning Lad/Live Wire goes through various transformations from his standard (although cartoonishly rendered) appearance into a "lightning form." This is not a knock against Steve's designs, he was working in the concept that he was given. Still, and I know this is such a long shot that it's probably never going to happen, I still hold out hope that the Legion might see the light of day in the standard DC Dini/Timm style. Heck, I'd be happy if I could ever catch the Legion ep. of "Superman." Maybe we can always hope for a guest shot on Justice League if there's a season 3. If they can do the New Gods and the Justice Guild, surely a handful of Legionnaires won't be too many guests.

In the ads I saw they didn't look like "teen" Titans to me! They looked about 8!

Meh, I don't believe I'm missing much with Teen Titans. I'll happily wait for a Legion cartoon that is worthy of the name. wink

One thing we MUST realize: should THE LEGION ever have its own cartoon, it WILL be geared towards the kiddies and NOT us 30something-Plus fanboys. Hard cold reality.

I *do* have Cartoon Network. When is TEEN TITANS slated to debut? I'll check it out and report back.

I wouldn't mind a Legion toon geared towards kids, but the Legionnaires shouldn't be 8! I plan to TRY TT, but I'm very doubtful. frown

What bugs me more is that, based on the TEEN TITANS preview of the cover to issue # 1, Beast Boy is being given a complete image makeover to make him look like his 'toon self. THIS I -don't- like!!

Thanks, Scott-- I'll make sure to check it out Saturday...

Ugh -- I just hope Cyborg doesn't end up looking all big and bulbous like the Michellen man.

Do you know where we can see images from this? I'll have to try to ask Steve on his ArtPost forum (too bad he doesn't use his room here).

I can see it now though. Rokk's at the mission monitor board with the Legionnaire's symbols all in front of him, "Live Wire! Shikari! Wildfire! -- I choose you!!"

But think of all the Legion flight rings they could sell to the little buggers (and the boards being proliferated by the pre-teen set!!).

They might still be on his homepage, though I don't have the foggiest notion what the url is. I think he auctioned a few of them off there.

Don't know if this is Mr. Lightle's official homepage, but it is a link he uses to auction off some of his works. I believe he posted it himself on the old DCMBs.
