I still like the reboot take where Brainiac 5 was the great great grandson of the original Brainiac. It made sence with the long lifesapns of the Coulons plus it would keep in that little thing about Brainy having some of Stealth's crazy DNA mixed in to his makeup.

'Brainiac' is an 'honorable title descended from the great revolt' now instead of a designation that Querl is trying to live down due to Brainiacs 1, 2 and 3. I imagine that doesn't bode well for fans of L.E.G.I.O.N. or R.E.B.E.L.S. Paul introduced that concept years ago when Brainy returned to Colu prior to the Magic Warsthis version. [/b] It is a CHANGE to the continuity of Most Recent version of the Legion (aka. prior to 'Flashpoint') which some are still saying was not rebooted with the other DC titles. This (along with several other small changes)shows that it was since the prior version established that 'Brainiac' was considered a slur by the Coluans and Querl was angry with his father for giving him the title. *I suppose that I should also point out that: That situation was itself a change from the Pre-Crisis/pre-5YL Legion history where Querl never really knew his father and would be (briefly) lead to believe that Pulsar Stargrave was in fact his father. And where Rond Vidar made a comment on how 'Brainiac' Was an honorific that didn't even have to follow the bloodline.* [/b]The pre flashpoint version of the Legion was split between the stories/information printed outside the (Levitz) Legion series and the stuff included within the series. So far the Legion series itself has not been altered but the stories from other titles have. Supergirl and Mon-El being the main legionnaires affected but Brainiac 5 is another. Some of the changes are forced by the Super titles reboot but other stuff such as the Brainy history is pure Levitz. I'm pretty sure this is his way of removing 'legacy' from Johns/Robinson et al that he doesn't want to play with. It makes sense to me to consider the Johns and Robinson stories pre flashpoint but LSH v6 as well as v7 as post flashpoint. The Levitz early days Adventure issues are pre Flashpoint.

Instead, it is being used to overlay some stupid and pointless political intrigue cr@p onto the Legion's history. It is like a longer, slower and much less entertaining version of the Annual that showed us how Glorith had manipulated the creation of the Legion in that reality. What a disappointment. What a waste. The main continuity questions revolve - as always - around Superboy/man, Supergirl and Mon-El. From what I have read "Secret Origin" will get to when Mon-El joined so presumably will answer all of the queries related to that period in the Legion's past. Once that part of the Legion's history is covered, the only real issue is what happened after the Magic Wars but I doubt "Secret Origin" will cover that chapter of the Legion's past. I can see why "Secret Origin" isn't to everyone's taste but I for one am enjoying it and look forward to it answering the perennial reboot questions. We may also see some additional background in Action #5/#6. I would like to see "Secret Origin" followed up with a new "Secrets of the Legion" series that takes the Legion's history and brings it up date just like the original series in the seventies.

Since I'm maintaining the continuity list, does anyone have references for 1) Paul saying in the 1980's series that Brainiac is an honorable title? (I know there was a scene where Projectra says he's of noble descent). 2) Geoff Johns saying that it is shameful?

There was a flashback to Brainy's youth, where his dad tries to "rehabilitate" the name.

In LSH #55, a member of Colu's council addresses Brainy as "honored descendant of our leaders" and there's a reference to the noble house whose title translates in Interlac as Brainiac.

Just got issue 2 tonight, and I love the little exchange on page 8, where the Naltorian member of the secret council gets all bossy when Mycroft demands deference.
Gosh, not only do these 20 pagers read super-fast, but the story seems alternately decompressed and hyper-compressed.
The Founders were together for, it seemed, ten minutes, before Lu signed up, and now Brainy, Tinya and Gim are moving towards membership.

I would love to see a good long stretch of stories featuring only the first 8 or 10 members, with none of the super clones included to hog the action.
Imra, Garth, Rokk Lu, Tinya, Brainy Gim, Lyle, Cham

Imra, Garth, Rokk Lu, Tinya, Brainy Gim, Lyle, Cham Agreed! Seeing pre-Jo Tinya, in particular, is fun. I wish, rather than break up Mon and Shady, Paul had taken advantage of his Adventure issues to explore some solo Mon or Shady characterization, from before they hooked up, rather than break them up to advance their storylines. And any chance to see more of classic Lyle, whom I know better from the Reboot and Threeboot, since the classic version died so very long ago, would be welcome, as well!

It would also be great to see how those 9 above handle things with their less flashy powers. They'd have to rely on their wits and teamwork, which they have in spades!

I'd rather leave out Brainy and use Violet instead. Let Lyle be the brains of the team for a change.
But since Brainy's already been introduced, that ain't likely I guess.

Well, it looks like they're bringing in Ultra Boy in the next issue. So much for my Xmas wish list.

It occurs to me that, with Brainy making a big deal, multiple times, IIRC, that his force field belt is irreproducible 'lost' technology, that nuDCU Booster Gold must have a different origin for his force field tech.
