and it is some great reading. Not all the people interviewed come across as nice, but then, not everyone in life is. And you can really tell over the history of the legion who cared about it and who thought of it as just a job.

What i suspected when the books came out is pretty close to what the attitude of most of the creators is.

I haven't read it all, but i am enjoying it hugely. Anyone else got this book?

Yep, and I'll echo your comments.

I don't hold it against the guys from the early days who thought of it as just a gig. What we know as comics fandom hadn't quite developed and influenced perceptions yet.

For that matter, I don't hold it against anybody in comics who has that attitude, as long as their work is good.

From a long time reader of the Legion who hasn't read a comic in about five years (after the Legion Reboot, I got out)....

...where, perhaps, might I find this wonderful book?

It was published in November 2003 by TwoMorrows. Here is the direct link to their page for it. Amazon.com also has it, in new and used copies.

Discussion threads at LegionWorld are here: before and after publication.

It's primarily interviews with Legion creators, and nearly all of the material covers the period before "Zero Hour" and the first reboot (1994). It also has a new Dave Cockrum cover, four pages of previously unpublished Cockrum art, and dozens of illustrations by professional and fan artists contributed from readers' collections (including mine).

Thanks, Greybird. I'll definitely be picking up a copy for myself. A pity they don't give the UPS flight rings.

I understand that if you're patient enough you'll eventually find one of those on e-bay too. laugh

Careful though, it's hard to find one that works.

Green Lad, the editor even acknowleged lil' ol' Legion World and published a sketch of LW fan favorite Lester Spiffany!!! The sketch was done by the artist who drew the avatar you've chosen....ME!!! (It was a thrill!)

I really wanted it but I have to carefully budget those comic dollars and had planned to look at it lovingly and *wish* I had a copy BUT since Dean-O has a piece in it it went straight to the top of the "must buy" list.

I haven't regretted it even a little bit laugh Every time I read another article in it I have to go dig out a stack of comics and read up on whatever it is they're talking about.

Kind of fun too.

I lucked out and got 2 when they first came out. They are very nice looking and sold out quickly at my store. I have seen them on ebay from time to time for under $200 laugh
