Polar Boy looked good this issue. I also enjoyed Quislet's stone angel. Tellus looked all wrong!

Maybe I'm just not demanding enough, but I figured Shady was able to overpower Sun-Killer because he'd been destroying a bunch of stuff and had simply depleted his own powers. Mostly a pretty good issue, but the art and pacing looked really rushed at the end. Kind of a shame, because there was a lot of interesting stuff happening. I rather like the fact that EM is still wavering most of the time between his xenophobia and his pragmatic attempts to get along with the "aliens." Seems like a terrible waste if they just end up killing him off an issue or two down the road.

I agree. Not too bothered by the fight scenes with Sun Killer as his powers and limitations are not that well defined.

The team does have transuits ... that obviously protect them from a large range of temperatures ...
all these fight scenes needs is a throwaway line or bubble saying its activated.
that limits the evilness of Sun Emporer but maybe it would function the same way, requiring a direct hit ... as the fight scenes play out now.
maybe they should write a do not try this at home when showing persons of normal vulnerability fighting flaming villains with the power of a sun.

Okay, but if they're introducing new "super" villains who can be beaten with one punch by one of the weakest Legionnaires without even using her powers, then I think they need to go back to the drawing board. Otherwise, the Legion's challenges won't be very challenging.IMHO, of course.

I briefly thought of suggesting they bring in my favorite villain, but I gave it some thought and I would rather remember him as he was. I don't want characters I like to be brought into current stories just to be killed off shortly after.

I liked issue #13, but I get the impression that the DC $2.99 "Hold the Line" changes have really screwed up Paul Levitz's storytelling both in the Legion and Adventure titles. The Cover Art is all screwy (what happened to the Dreamy carrying Thom cover? The Comet Queen cover was advertised for the past issue?), not to mention some of the Preview descriptions being off.
It would not surprise me that Paul had the first dozen to two dozen issues of Legion (plus the LSV Special and Legion Annual!) plotted out before the #6 version started. He has probably had to go back and cut and rearrange pages to accomodate the monthly title page reduction. This, unfortunately, has led the progression and accuracy to be a little bumpy.
I expect everything will smooth out with the conclusion of the LSV storyline and I hope Paul stretches things out to another issue or two if necessary to keep the story details intact rather than editing out info that makes the dialogue and events somewhat confusing.
Maybe Mr. Levitz would be kind enough to join us and let us in on what, if any, difficulties he's had to deal with on the DC price/page reductions?

(but we have seen her use her powers well there ... ) looks like the whole weakness to sunlight thing didn't really work out. :shurg:

Talok was not originally a desert planet. The team is shown crossing A desert in Adv. 365, but they also climb mountains and Shadow Lass mentions jungles, which are pretty much the opposite of deserts. Later writers got lazy and decided to paint all of Talok with the same dusty brush and called it a desert planet, partially I suppose to explain why someone who can only create darkness would be useful there.
It's a pet peeve of mine to portray an entire planet in such a one dimensional way. Winath for another example is a completely agricultural world populated by twins, and Tharr is populated by short people, just because Polar boy used to be shown as short.

Wait. Regarding Shady's first appearance: show what eventually happens. Her shadow force is able to short circuit the blinding radiance device. Demonstrating that her shadows are not just passive and can absorb light (and hopefully, ultimately energy).

She doesn't short circuit the device. She's just able to black out the room. IIRC, she says something about the pressure from the lights being strong even after she's blacked out the room.

So I was just reading this one again, and noticed the upside rocket-ship HQ on pages 20 and 25. Seeing that still makes me smile.
Interesting parallel around pages 5ish and 12ish (don't have book handy and don't remember).
The first is Saturn Girl smacking Questor around while Zymyr hovers nearby. (The LSV's telepath, Coluan genius and teleporter sharing a panel.)
The second is Brainy having his brain unscrambled by Tellus, while Gates hovers nearby. (The LSH's telepath, Coluan genus and teleporter sharing a panel.)
I have no idea if that was intentional parallellism, but it was neat.
Also nice to see that Timber Wolf's hair is till all singed from his fight with Sun Killer. Continuity from issue to issue gives me a happy.

One the first page Immortus says he's made of self-regenerating inertron. Then, on page two, Jan says that he can't believe how fast Immortus can regenerate. So, I was under the impression that Immortus' power repaired faster than Jan's could destroy. I thought Jan did a good job compensating. Did I miss something? Shady's older now and I suppose her abilities have matured, gotten stronger and more varied, just like the other Legionnaires. I agree, though, that she should have used her powers against Sunny. It wouldn't just be the temperature and old weakness to extreme light to worry about. There's also radiation. I seriously doubt that transuits would save someone from dying in a sun. And Brin was burned. I just have never seen PB as powerful enough to go against a blazing sun. But, maybe Sunny was powered down enough. I just dislike when the writing isn't clear enough. The blue baby reminds me of GDS, too. That's why I originally guessed that it was Darkseid, which I was shown was incorrect and it's really Barry Allen's twin brother.

I tend to handwave that stuff pretty easily. I never imagine that Winath is literally only one giant "breadbasket" or that nobody on Tharr is taller than 5'5". Only that it's mostly the case in either situation.

TBH, I was feeling the "choppiness" well before #6. I just think there's too much emphasis on eye candy and not enough on packing in actual story. Sometimes I'm not sure if the very bad taste left in my mouth by certain plot developments is all about the developments, or only due to that fact that they seemed to come completely out of nowhere, with no real attempt at a buildup or setup.

Yes. I also run screaming when people we know, Legionnaire wise, for years suddenly act grossly out of character.
And speaking of characterizations, perhaps, EM isn't killed in the up-coming issue with the 'hand'. Maybe, he kills a Legionnaire as part of his LSV initiation. THAT would at least, fit.
PS - I'm glad Lar's cape isn't so huge anymore. I don't mind his GL uniform at all, with that change made.

Finally got my copy, but it was bittersweet reading with the news of the upcoming reboot. Legion reboots are what made me drop comics for several years.
Anyone else notice the similarity of the scene with Hunter offering EM membership in the LSV to the classic scene were Mekt tries to persuade Ayla to join and then tries to kill her when she refuses? Except EM doesn't defy Hunter and repeatedly tell him no?
Nice to see Quislet and Polar Boy get some action, and yes I would have liked to have seen Tasmia use her powers on Sun-Killer. Seems like it would have been an obvious choice.
Oh, and I do like Invisble's Kid's goatee.
