The Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century #1
Written by J. Torres
Art by Chynna Clugston-Flores
Cover by Steve Uy

An all-new series spinning out of the smash-hit TV show, written by J. Torres (TEEN TITANS GO, Sidekicks, Alison Dare: Little Miss Adventures) and drawn by the creator of the indie favorite Blue Monday, Chynna Clugston-Flores!

To stop the Fatal Five from destroying Metropolis, the Legion of Super-Heroes travel back in time for reinforcements, because this looks like a job for…Clark Kent?! Can six teenagers from the future help a mild-mannered reporter become the Man of Steel, or will the Fatal Five determine his destiny before it’s even begun?

Retailers: Please see the solicitation for the Free Comic Book Day Edition of this issue elsewhere in this issue of Previews.

Not a fan of the art. Wow. Wonder why they're changing it. I just got used to the cartoon.

Is it that different from the show? I haven't seen much of it.

Not sure who did the cover but that doesn't look like Chynna Clugston's work.

It's not SUV it's SUY. This may be our guy, Steve Uy . In fact, I'm positive he's our guy after looking at a couple of his Marvel covers.

No, thank you. I didn't spot the initials the first time I looked. Too busy trying to get the image posted.

...the cover, it's not working for me. And I mean that in terms of what it looks like. The artist is obviously capable of better work via what's on the linked site. Just...what? *headdesk* *sigh*

The cover looks...unfinished somehow. maybe this is just preliminary to get something in on time for the solicitations.

I hope.

Well, I'm up for giving this a shot. I wish I knew a young whipper-snapper to give a copy of this to and hopefully hook them on comics.

But, it looks like I can wait for FCBD to snag one for free...

Fine I'll buy one too.

But seriously doesn't announcing that the product that you are charging $2.25 for will be available for free in a few weeks guarantee high sales of the non-free variant?

Must contain urge to call DC marketing people.

I'll definitely be picking it up, but the cover definitely looks bad.

I like how the beginning of the Newsrama article says, "The series will be, like the other titles, based on the animated version of the properties (showing on Cartoon Network and KidsWB/CW), but will not be a monthly re-telling of episodes." Yet the solicitation sounds like a re-telling of the first episode. I guess they're OK for the first issue since it's not technically at "monthly retelling" until issue two comes out. But then he talks about issue two coming off the Timber Wolf episode, but at least it's a continuation. hmmm

I'm definetley going to pick up the 2nd issue if I come across it, and the one where Lightning Lad and Superman beat the crap out of each other will most likely be AWESOME!!

I'm thrilled to see another Legion book. The girls look horrible on the cover, but the interior art looks pretty good.

It sounds like it'll be closer to the original Adventure comics than anything published since.

Okay, the black and white interior stuff looks better. The cat lady is pleased. LOL. (Like that matters to anyone else, but just saying anyway...)

I admit I'm a tad disappointed that Chynna Clugston's only drawing the first issue. I suspect she really grooved at drawing the animated Luornu, who kinda looked like one of her characters anyway...

And I'd love to do a Legion of Super-Heroes/Teen Titans Go! crossover if they'd let me!
With a good idea, and a workable answer to the time travel issues, that could be cool. But there's plenty to play around with in the 31st Century before resorting to crossovers.

I could do without either of the super dweebs. The book(s) should be about the Legion, not the second thought characters that the DCU can't figure out what to do with. The sooner Super(boy)man (and Kara the bitch) goes away the better.

Isn't it weird how they finally had a cool Superboy (Conner) and a cool Supergirl (Earth Angel/Animated Series costume) and got rid of them both just as they started pumping up the Legion. You know, the property that's been screwed for years because it's dependant on both.

How is the LSH dependent on Superboy and / or Supergirl? Yes the pre-Crisis team was inspired by Superboy but I have always felt the team (and the books writing) was best when the Kryptonians were not around. The LSH, for me, has always been about a group with each member having limited powers finding unique ways to combine those powers to meet all comers. If anything Superboy's presence seamed to weaken the team as they would sit back and let him take the lead instead of stepping up to meet the problem head on.

So Issue 1 of this title will indeed be DC's Free Comic Book Day giveaway.

Newsarama Release

It's the 'Gold' level title so all participating stores should have it.

Which is bizarre, because won't knowing it's free two months later kill the orders on issue #1 (I know, I know, Johnny DC's not as dependent on the Direct Market)?
