I am really glad DC reprinted LOD as this is one of my all-time favorite Legion stories. This edition not being a trade is a bit of a disappointment but I am happy that we have a 100-page Legion spectacular!

I really liked Coipel's dark scratchy style back then too. It had a lot of energy and gesture. his style became polished very quickly. which is good, i like his stuff now too.

Me too, This four issue series, which was heavily promoted brought me back to the legion after an Archie boycott. I guess DC dosn't think it has the same gravity that I do. Well, It did end the volume, start LegionWorld and return with a new volume the Legion. now i'm thinking of all the early character designs by Olivier that could've been included in a TPB!! argh

Power Boy--what an inspiration! Perhaps we can make this string of messages the e-trade Legion of the Damned? I would need about a week or so to pull some scans together but the scans would include concept “pencil only” LOD drawings by Olivier Coipel of Karate Kid, Umbra, Ultra Boy, Cham, Live Wire, Apparition, Shvaughn, XS and the Blight. IIRC, seeing XS in her tattered outfit is heartbreaking. The image is poignant and, despite the tattered outfit, XS is absolutely adorable. If this is of interest here, please let me know and I will try to scan these images by next week. In the interim, perhaps someone can post the images of the covers and post them here because that is certainly something DC could have included but didn’t.

...and this is the message that I received.
You do not have permission to do that, for the following reason:

Hmmm... I didn't think that applied to uploads. Just create a photobucket, then , I suppose.

I just re-read the LotD "100-page Special", and while I've always liked this story, this read has allowed me to appreciate it fully. Coipel was raw at this stage, but his style, which suggests to me a mixture of Carlos Pacheco, Kelley Jones, and Walt Simonson (the Pacheco influence becoming more predominant in his later, tighter work) is ideally suited to this dark, moody tale. And it's kind of funny, but also enlightening, to me how DnA's two major Legion epics both suggest to me riffs on flawed, overlong Marvel Comics stories which improve on their source material (The Avengers' Korvac Saga for Legion Lost, and Uncanny X-Men's Brood Saga for LotD. Legion Worlds doesn't really owe much to anything else, but I think that one's more of a tapestry of inter-connected short stories.) I am now convinced that the limited series and/or the European-style stand-alone graphic novel is a much better format for the Legion than the monthly ongoing. It can't be a coincidence that DnA's Legion work declined precipitously right after the relaunch of the ongoing. DC's recent "Earth-One" experiments in the graphic novel format have been creatively iffy but, for the most part, commercially successful, which is encouraging. I don't know what the numbers were for the deeply flawed and unsatisfying Lemire/Dodson/Dodson Teen Titans Earth One GN, but for the sake of the Legion's possible survival, I hope they were decent. Saw this yesterday. Maybe I'll pick it up later. Coipel's scratchy style reminds me a little of Steve Leialoha, who I loved to pieces back in the day. Did you ever pick it up, Cleome? And if so, what did you think of it?

Oh, heck no. I forgot all about it! Let's see if I can remember my ebay password after I get paid. The library does get Legion stuff occasionally, but you have to wait forever...
Hey, Kids! My "Cranky and Kitschy" collage art is now viewable on ipernity! Drop by and tell me that I sent you. *updated often!*

Hope you enjoy it, Cleome. And please share your impressions with us, positive or negative as the case may be. There can never be too much Legion discussion.
