The build up to the Fatal Five story will almost be completed in time for 2014.

Like Mordru, the Fatal Five will become 21st century villains in one guise or another.
A character I like will be killed to make room for a character I probably won't, for awhile, anyway.
The mysterious whereabouts of Infectious Lass won't be touched upon as long as Levitz is the writer.
But that of Quislet will.
The fate of the Legion Losters will be dragged out until the end of the year.
A reunion with one of the other Legions of Three Worlds?
Either the Wanderers or the Heroes of Lallor, but not both, will make a small guest starring appearance.

I predict that before the year is over, we will see the beginning of the setup to a sequel to the Great Darkness Saga.

Like I said in the recent Legion appearances thread, I have a feeling that, before the year's out, when the Super-family finds themselves time-travelling to Krypton, that the Time Trapper/Entropy is responsible for the planet's destruction.

Sadly, we will not see any counterparts of Legionnaires from other 'Boots and continuities such as Kinetix, Theena, Kid Quantum II, XS, Laurel Gand, Computo, Dragonmage, Kent Shakespeare, Celese Rockfish or Monstress.

1) We'll get a bit more on the Harmonia backstory that'll explain why she is so arrogant.
2) Brainy will look as if he's heading for a breakdown and quit.
3) More academy kids will be introduced and a couple will be cannon fodder. (Oooh those fatal five are so bad ass they can kill these characters no-one cares about.)
4) Shadow Lass will make an appearance and do stuff and have a character that doesn't involve that sad Earth Man best forgotten plot.
5) Actually, she won't.

Because I am feeling cranky today:
January 2013: The Legion is rebooted as coming from a parallel Earth, not from the future. In order not to rely so much on gadgetry, “Earth-49” is described as having technology only at the level of the 1950s.
February 2013: In order to simplify Legion origin stories, all Legionnaires are classified as mutants, except for Brainiac-5, who is an alien from the future, and Timber Wolf, who is a product of government eugenics experiments, and has an inertron skeleton.
March 2013: In order to promote the third season of the Young Justice TV series, the entire cast of Young Justice joins the Legion. All Legion stories now prominently feature Superboy.
April 2013: In order to appeal to new, younger readers, the entire Legion is re-imagined as Funny Animals. Due to new legal problems, Superboy is re-christened “Krypto”.
May 2013: In order to promote the new Warner Brothers Cartoon Universe line, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, the Road Runner, Tweety Bird, and others join the Legion.
June 2013: Time-Warner acquires Harvey Comics and all its characters in a multi-million dollar deal; Casper the Friendly Ghost, Wendy the Good Witch, Baby Huey, and others join the Legion.
July 2013: In order to deal with the increasingly unworkable size of the Legion, half the Legionnaires are killed in a massive cross-over event. None of them are from the Young Justice, Warner Brothers, or Harvey groups.
August 2013: Legion stories now mostly revolve around Krypto, Daffy Duck, Brainiac 5, and Li’l Hot Stuff, the Little Devil.
September 2013: With the catastrophic failure of the Man of Steel movie in June of this year, Superman in all his incarnations is retconned out of DC Universe continuity. Krypto is replaced in the Legion by “Young Apollo”, a teen version of the character from Stormwatch / The Authority. The title is changed to “Young Apollo and the Legion of Superheroes.”
October 2013: Herbie Popnecker joins the Legion. Due to the ever-increasing size of the Legion cast, and the difficulty the writers and artists are having in keeping them all straight, DC announces three additional Legion books, to be published monthly: Legionnaires, Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes, and L.S.H. Dark.
November 2013: Due to the declining sales of the original Legion book, and the miserable performance of the first issues of the three new newly-released Legion titles, DC announces they are canceling the entire series. The final issue is a bleak confrontation with “Mask Man” , an evil 5th-dimensional imp, and the entire remaining membership of the Legion is murdered in increasingly gruesome ways. This time, they will stay dead.
December 2013: After a massive outcry, DC decides to issue every single Legion story ever written, in chronological order, in a series of high-quality, high-priced trade paperbacks. Every Legion fan over the age of thirty buys two copies of each issue, making them some of the worst-selling comic books of all time.
January 2014: DC announces that they have commissioned a clone of Otto Binder, and a new Legion of Super-Heroes title will be re-started under his direction with a new issue #1, as soon as he is born and has grown up enough to be able to hold a pencil. They project a release date of approximately 2021.
Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

You...really put quite a bit of thought into that. Sadly I can't help but think that any of those ideas would be more interesting than the Legion right now.

Conjure - that's a problem. That list took no thought at all. I read an internet rumor that Warner Bros. is making (another) bid for Archie Comics, and thought "Oh, now we can have a real Archie Legion", and just riffed from there.
Ideas are a dime a dozen. Just read SANDMAN. What really matters is good well-thought-out storytelling and carefully crafted art.

Here's hoping Al Plastino makes it to the ripe old age of 100, so he can draw the new #1!

A world will be destroyed. A Legionnaire will die. Nothing will ever be the same. Blah, blah, blah.
Seriously, my primary prediction is that Brainey becomes infected with some sort of mechanized nano-virus and becomes the new Tharok, possibly leading the new-ish Fatal Five in secret, at least at the onset, as the Dark Man.
The return of Keith Giffin means he and Levitz will retrieve the not-as-dead-as-he's-supposed-to-be Karate Kid from wherever he disappeared to . . . and kill him.
If the Levitz/Giffin reteam can't bring book back above 18k is sales, look for the return of Justin Thyme to pen a final issue.
The Legion has too many trademarkable characters though, so it won't be gone long. The book will return in 2014 with a new #1 and a complete reboot by Scott Snyder and a protege to be named later, this time inspired to stop the Court of Owls from murdering RJ Brande by the example of the 21st century Legion of Super-Robins.

I'm still annoyed that Dacey and Dorrit aren't in continuity. Dacey and Dorritt don't bother me as much as Pol Krinn (Rokk and Lydda's son) Me, too. I also miss Rond and Laurel's daughter and Ivey. I always kind of imagined that powers weaken with cross-breeding, so a half-Titanian would have weaker mental powers than a full Titanian, and, say, an eighth-part Titanian might have no mental powers at all. Which would really put the kink in the Master's kinky plan to breed a super-army from mind-controlled Legionnaire sex slaves.
I've seen that approach in stories, for example, Tepper's Gamesmen series. The little twist was that everyone started with a 'power' type, so the crossed descendents had multiple weaker combinations which caused them to become their own gamepieces. I see a possible future where the powers don't might combine, or dilute OR remain whole, as the dominant genetic material, say, like, brown eyes(sort of). I could also see complete powers skipping a generation or two, or being hooked to some other factor, like sex or hair color or . . . I predict that Jan leaves for Thom and Glorith explores her past, where the second Emerald Eye chooses her for it's mistress.
A singin' and a dancin' along the way.

I predict things will look up a bit. The Fatal Five arc is promising and Paul's been writing more and more like Paul as he goes. Either way, don't expect a big shake-up regardless. Giffen is a Didio man and Paul's Golden Parachute from the Publisher position is likely that they give him two books a month and leave him alone (my speculation only). I think sales will need to get close to single digits before they go nuclear.

First KK wil be rebooted as a Cargite, THEN he will be killed... and killed and killed and ....

Cos won't be around on active duty much longer, but that's probably not much of a stretch to "predict."
Brainy will be taken off the table for awhile as well.
I hope we get to see more of Sun Boy, so I predict that he gets some much needed attention in 2013.
Depressingly, I think LSH sales will continue to slide and that - even though Keith Giffen will bring some much needed energy to the title - Paul will be replaced by the end of the year. If a buzzalicious writer (or artist) isn't found at that time, then I don't have confidence in the Legion as a continuing title in the DCU for the near- to mid-range future. I will pray that I am wrong.
I like the idea of Harmonia Li being the Time Trapper; there are a number of ways for that to make perfect sense.
Why are you laughing at me? It's unkind, as well as puzzling!

The little twist was that everyone started with a 'power' type, so the crossed descendents had multiple weaker combinations which caused them to become their own gamepieces. [tangent] I had a fun time speculating what sorts of powers the kids of various legion pairings might end up with in my Legion Legacies setting. Picking some not-entirely-canonical pairings, such as Saturn Girl/Timber Wolf, to create someone able to tap into the 'feral' part of someone's mind to make them flip out and go berserk and behave in an animalistic fashion, or to temporarily uplift animals to sentience, or Ultra Boy/Projectra, able to form real constructs of ultra-energy in the form of emerald dragons, was kind of fun. Of course many Legionnaires have abilities what wouldn't necessarily pass on to their children anyway, genetically or mystically, or whatever, so it's entirely possible a Sun Boy / Shadow Lass child or an Invisible Kid / Lightning Lass kid would be totally powerless. Marvel's totally schizo on the topic of power inheritance. Polaris was 'supposed to be Magneto's kid, because they have similar powers' and yet the two kids we *knew* he had developed completely different mutant powers, and Quicksilver's kid ended up with very different powers as well, but Wanda's kids ended up with powers similar to hers and Pietros. It's like, 'wait, what?' Meanwhile, nine out of ten children of Scott Summers and / or Jean Grey end up with powers like their parents, while the Guthrie clan throws darts at a board to see what powers they get... [/tangent] Anywho, predictions. 1) Ayla and Violet continue to be a couple, but don't get married, because that might actually be too much 'shaking things up' compared to blowing up planets and killing young heroes. 2) The Fatal Five kill a bunch of people, to highlight what stone badasses they are. One or more of the Academy kids stationed at Takron-Galtos may be hurt or killed during the breakout of Validus.

Sorry if somebody put this prediction in a similar way already previously in this long thread, but here's my Legion prediction for the end of 2013:
"Because you demanded it, a return to the REAL Legion!" The only question is, which version would actually be brought back, or would it be an amalgamation of them all?
If the meek shall inherit inherit the Earth, then I at least want Baffin Island - and a property manager to work for me who is made of sterner stuff than I.
